I don't even know how to describe what has happened this semester but I am failing Chemistry. I don't understand it and the tutors up at the school are little help because they have so many to tutor. The sad thing about it is that I have just been overloaded all semester.
I haven't taken a break since I started school. I have taken intercessions and summers to the point that right now, I really don't care that I am failing. I don't know if its burnout or what. I have already applied to the nursing program and have a 3.56gpa right now. I have plenty of points to get in so I am fully expecting an acceptance letter in the next few days. What do I do now that I get in but fail Chem? How bad will this look and what about financial aid?
Please don't think that I just don't care completely. I have just had so many things going on with sick kids, schedule, etc. that I am kind of numb right now with my entire life... not just school. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Well if your chances of getting in are good without the chemistry then you don't have anything to worry about for now. Some of the schools I'm looking at require chemistry to be completed by the time of application others want it complete before enrollment. If your school has similar requirements and you're applying for Fall of 09 then you still have time.

at the school i currently attend, they allow you to start the nursing program without chemistry (needs to be done before completion though) and they only look at the classes completed at the time of your application review. hopefully this is the same case for you! and don't feel bad, sometimes life does become so overwhelming that school falls lower on our priority scale, and not on purpose!!
life happens, just keep your head up and good luck to you!!

If you can still drop, then drop. you do not want an F on your transcript. If you need to take Chem again in the future, then you'll probably do a lot better the second time around. Good luck!
If it's too late to drop, some schools will replace a failing grade if you retake the course...others average the two grades. Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works out for you!

My advice is to drop the course before it is too late.
I took an Introductory Chemistry Course face-to-face at Ocean County College (NJ) last spring because I never had chemistry in high school. It was terrific. The professor was an RN as well as a chemist. She was the best teacher that I ever had.
She is teaching two online chemistry courses this semester because she had a baby over the summer. The Introductory Chemistry course is listed as CHEM 180 DL and the General Chemistry I is listed as CHEM 181 DL.

If you need more time at home, this is the way to go. They take students from all over the country.
You hang in there!

I have a question for you...I suck at Math...I had to take a high-school level of Chemistry last year for the nursing program and I struggled the entire way through. This has significantly limited my options as far as BSN programs and graduate schools.
I feel like I require so much one-on-one explanation when it comes to math problems.

hey jersey nursing girl-
I attend OCC currently completing my prereqs. I need to take chem180 who do you suggest to take??? Maybe you would know the answer to this question---if you fail a humanities course what happens? to your gpa and your financial aid??? can you retake it to get a better grade and can you retake a different humanities course? I am currently taking critical thinking and i think i am failing. could i take something like world religion (which satifies the requirement) during the summer to rectify the failing grade? not sure if you know any of this but since you go to occ thought that maybe you would know. are you done with your pre reqs?? or are you in the program yet? I also applied to OCVTS for lpn program. waiting to see which one i get in 1st. anyway see you around campus
Thank you all so much. It is too late to drop at this point. Believe me, I am on my 16 year old right now about how much easier it is to simply go to school after high school before life is so full of other distractions!!LOL
I should get my letter later today so I will let you all know. My program is the same as the one mentioned above. I simply have to have the course taken before I graduate. Thanks again for your thoughts and encouragement
