hi there....i see by the string of posts you've recently put up that you are hoping to go to nursing school, but by your questions i'm wondering if you've actually had a sit-down appointment with a counselor at the school? it seems to me that so many of your questions can be answered (and really should be answered) by an advisor from the admissions department. and, then after getting those answers, the rest can be answered by an advisor within the nursing program itself.

it just seems that you're making yourself crazy asking a nationally (and internationally!) diverse group of people what requirements you need when the answers are so easily found all at one shot, without confusion, from the school you ultimately have to please.

that said, once you know your own school's requirements, everyone here would love to compare notes on what they have to do, too :)

but asking students from around the country what classes they need, how long their tests were, etc, won't help you where you need it.

for what it's worth, to answer this question above: everyone has to pass anything from one test to a series of tests to secure placement in college, any college. you will always need more than a pen and a check to get in :) how many tests, what kind of tests and how competitive the tests are depends on what school you will attend.

best of luck to you!!

i agree with the above post, you really need to talk to a school counselor. but an assessment test just tests you on the basics of math, science, etc. the college just wants to know what level you are on so they can place you in the right classes.

I assume you are meaning something like the COMPASS. As someone else has said, it's best to contact the school and ask them.

The school I go to asks for a COMPASS test regardless of your major. However, most if not all the health science students there have to take it and meet certain scores in order to be officially accepted into the program. It's just to make sure that you are ready and can keep up with the classes they are throwing at you.

I was tested on reading, writing and math. Met and exceeded the required scores for the first two but math....I had to have a 50 and got a 48 :angryfire So I have to retake the math portion.

I had 3 passages that I had to answer questions on for reading, I had to correct an essay then answer a few questions for the writing then the math was about 5 questions. I was done in 40 minutes but they say an average of 1.5 hours. I was allowed to use a calculator and also had a sheet of scratch paper for the math portion.

i actually just took the HESI entrance test today and they gave us 3 hrs. to take it and there was 4 parts to the test: Math, Reading Comp., Grammer, and A&P it's pretty easy but i would still study and get helpful info. off of websites and study guides to better prepare you if you had to take a test like this. Good Luck!

it's just basic math, reading, and english on there. at my school i took it on a computer, and it wasn't that long. i don't know if you are going to a university or community college. but at a community college it doesn't matter how good or bad you do,you are still accepted to the college. they just want to make sure they place you in the right classes. for instance, if you aren't that good in english, they don't want to place you in a english class that you can't handle. they will place you in a class where you can build your strengths up. the compass test is in your best interest to prevent that from happening.

My college gives the Wonderlic test to all their students & to get into the nursing program you need a 21, I believe. It's a timed test (30 minutes), taken on the computer with 50 questions. My score was the highest they ever had at that college. I'm not really that smart. I just take standardized tests easily.

I understand we will take the NET at orientation.

I took the compass test last August. It was just math, English and reading. They test you just to make sure you take the correct level classes. Like for English I scored over 90% and that put me at a recommendation for English comp instead of English communications (which covers basic grammar plus composition). I bombed the math part, it was mostly algebra and I didn't remember any of it! Thank goodness the nursing program at my school doesn't have any math pre-reqs! I think the test took me less than an hour to do, it was on a computer.
