I remember being in the hospital and this nurse walked by. She had on a white dress and a really tall white nurse's hat, with a red cross on the front. I always wondered who she was? Was she special or was she the head nurse? The others were dressed normally but she just stood out to me.

I "grew up" in the days when nurses wore caps and I have NEVER seen a cap with a red cross on it. I think you were either drugged, dreaming, or delusional...( or maybe it was a ghost)

I've got mad skillz, I tell ya...
Both my girls were born in Catholic hospitals, even though I'm not Catholic. My youngest was by c/s, and I remember seeing this woman all in white gliding about, down the halls, out on the lawn, all over.
I swear I saw her, but everyone thought I was nuts. I figured it was the Head Nun ...
Maybe it was a ghost.
Or the Demerol.

Was this hospital of a religious order?? Nun perhaps? I recall a nurse hat with wings on it back in 1954. I thought I was just a scared little girl, but low and behold, flash forward to 2007, I took a job in this hospital and there on the wall was a picture of the nurse with the hat wings. It was a nun hat.
This one appears to be a bit tall http://www.civilization.ca/hist/infirm/images/in26764a.jpg
That's what reminded me of the woman I saw.

our caps look like flying nun hats. i hate them. but ive never seen ones with a red cross! :)ive met alot of old school nurses that still prefer to wear theirs, all whites, knee length skirts and white hose... whatever floats your boat i guess.
