Hi to future student nurses,
I was wondering has anyone already enrolled in the nursing program @ HFCC? I recently passed my NET. Got accepted for the coming Fall/2008. This summer I have to repeat my Anatomy II, because it's 5 years old. And have to take a Pharmocolgy course plus a Basic Life Support this summer. The NET for those student who need some advice: Practice make perfect!
Practice on your algebra, comprehensive reading critical skill as much as you can. I receive my test 2 hrs after taking it on the computer. I'm working very hard to pay for my tuition and books. And hopeful, my FAFSA will reward me a grant this fall/2008. I will apply for as many scholorship ASAP! because this school once you regrister, full payment is due that Friday. And this is hard for those whose is struggle with low-income.
Alos, I have no health insurance on my job, so I have to find :bowingpur some low-rate insurance from some company and make monthly payment. I just hope that some school reward me a nice scholorship ASAP!

Hi,
I am currently at HFCC taking my pre-reqs to get on the waitlist. I still have Eng 132, Bio 131 and Chem 131 left to take. And I am registered to take the NET on 6/9. I assume I will have a wait of a year, so I was planning on doing my Soc 131 and the other 4 or 5 classes they let you take while on the waitlist. Because if you get all of those out of the way you basically only have 2-3 semesters once you get into the program!!
How long did you have to wait to get into the program? I heard the waitlist is 6-18mos.. It's better than Washtenaw Community College, where the waitlist is 3-4yrs long.
And I hear you on tuition... I registered last Mon and I had to put $300 down for the payment plan on Friday. I didn't apply for Fin Aid b/c I wanted to try and do it without loans.. at least they let you make monthly payments, which makes it a little easier.
Good luck!!:nuke:

HFCC doesn't *really* make you pay by the Friday after you register. You can wiggle by for a bit longer than that. Once you are in the nursing program, the Nursing Dept. won't let them drop you for lack of paying. Once you are in, they protect you from some of the stricter college policies. It's pretty nice. The Nursing Dept carries a big club in that college. Heh heh heh.
The nursing program is four semesters long.
It is much easier to get the second year paid for than the first. Sources of funds want to make sure you get into your second year and have a reasonable chance of passing the entire program before they open their purse strings. So, the first year is tough financially; if you can get through that, the second becomes much easier in terms of finances.
The nursing dept has some sources of low $ health insurance.
Good luck. It's a great nursing program.
Hmm... I wonder why I was told that if I got my co-reqs out of the way while on waitlist (classes such as Soc 131, Anatomy, etc) that I could get done in 2-3 semesters? If the program is roughly 65 credits, and your pre-reqs and co-reqs make up roughly 32 credits, why does it take 4 semesters to complete 33 credits??
Maybe I need to go back and take a second look at the program... Am I missing something here? I thought they said the whole point of getting the co-reqs out of the way while on the waitlist was so that you could get done with the program in less time (12-18 mos, as opposed to 24)
I'm confused!!

I am not fimilar with the school but I was looking at something similar and they told me that even though you get all the credits out of the way and are only in the CORE nursing classes at this point that the program still moves at the same pace and because you would have been taking the co-reqs along with the other classes. Having the co-reqs out of the way just gives you a lighter semester. You may only have 1 or 2 classes instead of 3 or 4.

Hello everyone. I am currently on the waitlist for the nursing program. I went on the list in August of 2008 and I am told that I should watch me mail for a letter around mid October to beginning of November. I would start the program in January of 2010. That will make me on the list for about 16 months. If you start in the winter semseter there are no breaks. For example I hopefully will attend from January 2010 till May 2011. You only get the regular holidays off. However if you attend during the fall you go fall and winter then have spring and summer off and then go back to finish will fall and winter again. When I get more information I will update everyone. Also I wanted to add to not really worry about the pay by friday rule for tuition. I have been registered for fall since it opened up and have not paid anything for classes. Just tell the cashiers you are waiting on Fin Aid even if you aren't. This will buy you some time. Another thing that has worked for me in the past is to make a small payment of $50, $75, or $100 and tell them you just dropped off your Fin Aid inform but don't want to lose you classes. That will keep you from having to pay anything till classes start. And if you get a letter just tell them you are working with Fin Aid and make some sort of payment, the cashiers will give you 2 weeks to a month to work on the problem and this is usually after classes have started. Fin Aid and the cashiers don't communicate unless it is about refund checks and then they take their sweet ass time. I have been there for about a year and a half and have always had Fin Aid problems.
