I'm trying to get a feel for how Prism Career Institute in NE Phila's program/school is and any inside advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi,

I don't know anyone in the program itself but speaking from a former admissions counselor from a technical school, don't waste your money. Most of the technical schools are focused mainly on admissions and not on retention. We were told during our training that our priority was making sure the students made it past the two week mark then forget about them. Of course once they reached that mark a refund was not an option so the school won regardless. The quality of the teachers also left something to be desired as well. In the end it's ultimately your decision but I would make sure to weigh all of my options equally before commiting to anything.

Thank you so much for your honesty. I had an idea that technical schools were in it for the money which is why I'm so hesitant. I just want to make sure I'll be able to get my LPN license and my credits will actually be tranferrable when I persue my RN degree. Again thanks for your advice.

No problem, that's why I had to leave that job. It cost me less to get my B.A. than for some of their programs. Also, some employers don't really look at the technical schools as highly as they do more accredited programs. Maybe it's different for LPN's but a lot of the MA's that passed through my school had a hard time finding employment just b/c of where they graduated from and the impression that our school just pushed most students through (which they did) I know you will find the perfect program for you, don't settle you deserve better.:redbeathe

I know this post is old, but others may be searching for info. i graduated from the first LPN class at Prism in Cherry Hill, NJ. I loved it, they did whatever was necessary for us. We had tutors for math, and any extra health that was needed. I thank Prism for helping me achieve my dream of becoming a nurse.

How much did it cost you for the lpn program at prism?

Its $22,000 for the 15 month LPN program at Prism compared to $26000 for Lincoln 12 month LPN. That is all included and before and State or Federal Grants you may receive.

Do you have to take any classes before you enter PRISM.... I heard that want you to have some college courses!

I graduated from Prism 2 years ago,we did not need college classes. Just call Prism and ask

did you go on to get your rn and if so where or do u know a good lpn to rn bridge program

I am in the process of obtaining my RN through Excelsior college. It was the best fit for me.

holy cow that's a lot of money. i did my lpn years ago so i had to look it up just to make sure it wasn't because i did it years ago but it is still way cheaper. [color=#323232]tuition for the practical nurse program for 2011-2012 is:

  • mercer county residents $6,350.00
  • out-of-county residents $12,700
  • out-of-state residents $25,400

[color=#323232]of course this is for this program but keep shopping. check you state board of nursing & check what programs are accredited. you can't sit for the boards unless you go to an accredited program. no diploma lpn programs unless they are done at colleges carry college credits.

you can apply for credit at an rn school & hope they award you some credit but it is not actually college credits you get as an lpn.

i would look into excelsior.edu for the rn upward mobility i'm doing that now & love the freedom that i can still work.

i wanted to do it over the years but life always got in the way. not too much longer i hope i'll be an rn.
