I inquired about the work/school balance also and my friend in the program now said that most people do work but only part time. I'm not sure how much more fast paced the accelerated program will be than the traditional program but the first semester is condensed from 15 weeks down to 12 so I'm sure it will be at least slightly more rigorous. I guess we'll find out for sure at the orientation coming up, but just as an FYI there are options for financial aid, but a lot of the deadlines are May 15 for the summer semester. I saved a lot of money while I completed my pre-reqs in preparation for not working during the first semester of the program but I also inquired about financial aid through the college and qualified for a Pell Grant and another supplemental grant that I didn't even know existed so it's worth looking into! Now I feel better knowing I have a cushion and don't feel so stressed out about money on top of the coursework. I think working during the program is the reality for most people and its going to be difficult to balance both but staying on top of assignments and time management should make it doable.

Hello! Could you guys tell me how many points you had? I see some of you had 15-16, I wonder if something changed. I talked to someone in advising and she told me I needed 20-22 points to be competitive. That sounds a bit high to me. My gpa is only around 3.3. I think the most I could get would be like 15-17 points. I waited to apply for Spring 2018 so I could have more time to get things together. Please help! :)

They have a new point system; the advisor you spoke with may not have know that as this was the first year it was implemented.

I was told at the drop-in that with the new system, 12-14 points should be competitive, but I'd try for the higher end of that to be on the safe side. I had 16 pts. and a 3.75 gpa.

I'd say with 15-17 points, you're definitely looking good!

Thank you! I wish I would've attended the drop in because I can't seem to find anyone with any good info.

Do you know if you can request to switch to accelerated after being accepted? I would really like to do accelerated if I could.

Hi ladies! I'm applying for the 2018 accelerated program! I'd love info from you guys about everything since you are HALF WAY THROUGH! Holy cow 😳😘 anyways, I'm now in the anxiety ridden panic that I'm sure most of you were in. I'd love to know your points (did you guys use the new point system then?), your schedule, any tips to prepare? Just everything really! :)

Hi, I'm on my way to clinical now, but I'll be happy to answer when I get home later. I remember the anxiety of knowing nothing when first starting this journey all too well!

I'm hoping to apply for the accelerated program too! I'm hoping I have enough points. Also, wondering about schedules for both. However, I looked online and I was able to get an idea of the schedule for the one that isn't accelerated.

The schedules for the accelerated and traditional programs are the same, but the accelerated program doesn't have off for summer break. So you'd start in May 2018 for the summer semester and go straight through fall, spring, and another summer semester until graduation at the end of August 2019. The summer semesters are condensed into 12 weeks from the regular 15 weeks, but its honestly not that overwhelming. Most everyone I've spoken to who is in the traditional program and doesn't need the summer off have wished that they had done the accelerated program so that they could graduate in August instead of having summer off and then taking their last semester from August-December.

I was part of the first class that used the new selection criteria for the points system out of 24. I can't be certain, but I think I had 20 points when I got in. The minimum I've heard of getting accepted from my current classmates was 18/24 points.
