Harder to get hired with a BSN?

Published

Hi all~

I was just taking with a friend yesterday who is also going for her BSN and she said that nurses with a bachelor's have a harder time getting a job than nurses with an associates because they are required to pay those with a BSN more money (I live in Michigan - not sure if this varies by state?) I didn't think pay was that different, and that nurses were just needed regardless of BSN or ADN. Anyone with some insight into this? Perhaps I will cross post in the Michigan forum.

Thanks!

Not true where I am. BSNs are preferred in every hospital around.

In my corner of the world, the local hospitals are offering sign on bonuses for new grad RNs. The BSN new grad sign on bonus is $4000. The ADN new grad sign on bonus is $3000. Seems to me they want any RN, but prefer the BSN.

Never heard that one. I live in Ohio and a couple of the hospitals i've applied at have said BSN preferred and the VA hospital will only hire BSNs. Most of the hospitals ive applied at have stated there is starting pay for a "new grad"...
