Hi everyone! I was recently hired for the NICU at Harbor-UCLA new grad program, starting in March 2025. Im super excited to begin this journey and would love to connect with others who are also starting in March!
If youre in the same cohort (or have any insight on what to expect), feel free to comment or message me.
I was offered a job in February for their September 2025 perioperative nurse residency (from what I understand, there is only one periop program per year, and it's always in September). I received an email from Nurse Recruitment on July 9 confirming that all pre-employment requirements had been cleared, and I was scheduled to onboard in September, as planned. However, I spoke with Nurse Recruitment today, and they stated my offer may not be honored due to the ongoing budgetary issues. Has anyone else received offers, completed the pre-employment requirements, and had this happen to them?
I understand the precariousness of the situation, but I am furious that I only found this out because I reached out to nursing recruitment, not the other way around. When I asked when they would have let me know about this if I hadn't called, the person I spoke with could only say the situation is changing day by day and they need HR to clarify the situation.

That's unbelievable. Did you sign any paperwork or contract? They should have to honor it. They reached out a week after I interviewed that there was a hiring freeze indefinitely and that they would reach out if/when things changed.

Yes, and I have completed all the pre-employment requirements as well, including the background check and medical clearance.

I understand the situation. Frankly, I'm more upset that nursing recruitment appears to be completely passive regarding alerting people who have offers that they may not be honored. Their September cohort is supposed to start on the 2nd. Thank God I haven't put in my two weeks' notice with my current employer otherwise I'd be completely f&^%ED.

I was hired to the OR, so I assume so, yes.

"Due to this organizational directive, we are halting the canvassing and interviewing of candidates. The following are exceptions:
If you were notified by Nurse Recruitment about a job offer after your interview, and you accepted that offer, LACDHS will honor that offer.
If you began your official background check, the offer will also be honored upon clearance and approval."
