Nurses would rightly say- don't generalize, we are human, and there all kinds of skills and technologies. Since being cared for and saved by nurses who also got me through very "special" rehab on my knee and other challenges.........I really am not interested in hearing how the Redwoods are just trees or just cellulose and have pin needles and so forth on the ground and so forth.......genuine nurses who nurse are a different cut of the cloth........just as anyone can see that a tree is not barbed wire (some surgeons I have worked with). I know very well that nurses are worked to death, thrown away, have to deal with difficult people etc, work with people's pain and complaints, do the majority of comforting, never get meals, never get to rest except to plug into the nearest recharger standing up........have too many patients, are burned by adminstrators who have never done the job, don't listen and blame the nurses...........when in doubt blame the nurse etc.......and yet.........nurses are highly nervous about praise or attention.........rightly so.......they never know where people are coming from. I so wish we could develop some kind of nursing representative association by former patients..........as a return jesture........not try to curry favor with the nurses.........but out of respect and honor- why would it be so wrong to wash their cars.....walk their dogs.........pull weeds at their house.........(yes I know probably scares most people but I am from the country side and we all do that when people get busy......back home when someone goes in the hospital.......everyone stuffs their refrigerator and runs their farm....just part of being in the country but panics everyone else). Would be nice.......just to say a little thank you for our hard working nurses.......but probably a pipe dream.........would terrify everyone in this country..........they obviously don't understand country people.........it isn't right the way this country and the hospitals treat our nurses. Bully for the docs who are civil and respect them and work together as a team......bully of them.
