:confused:I work in a large OR. The regular environmental services for the rest of the hospital is not responsible for the maintenance and stocking, etc, of the OR, lounge, locker rooms, etc... the ORA's are responsible for these areas... anyway, these ORAs routinely put handwritten "signs" up around the ladies, mens rooms, locker rooms, to the effect of" if you sprinkle while you PEE, please be considerate and wipe it up. think of the people that clean this room" or- "your mother doesnt work here, clean up after yourselves" they have even as gone as far as pinning someones scrubs to a bulletin board, when they have accidentally left them on the floor, instead of putting them in the hamper...( our scrubs have our names in them) and " if you want maid service, please leave twenty bucks, if not then pick up after yourself" and on and on with such nonsense....this is my question....
isnt this completely unprofessional, and wrong? should anybody be able to put up a sign, asking that their JOB be made easier by OTHERS ? These signs make me soooo mad when I see them..... especially when I have no toilet paper in my bathroom stall for the eighth time that week, and /or have wet hands and no paper towels in sight....
Isnt this a management call... should people be putting their own signs up like this? or am I over reacting?
How about an answer to a different question---- Do you think it is appropriate for employees to post signs, of any kind, on a board in the workplace, without the prior approval of management?
what if I wanted to hang up religious signs, free the whales signs, whatever--- it should just be allowed?
Management should put up a permanent sign up in the bathroom reminding employees of what is expected of them. It's a shame that professionals even need to be told to wipe their pee off of a seat and put their scrubs into a hamper but a constant reminder of it could get the point across. This is clearly an ongoing issue where you work because some don't show the proper respect to their co-workers. Your issue shouldn't be so much the signs but the fact that a sign is even necessary to tell grown adults not to be such inconsiderate slobs. You are angry at the wrong people. You seem to be taking this very personally. You aren't one of the culprits here so it isn't directed towards you. Hope the ones it is directed at have the decency to change their unacceptable behavior.

I put a sign on our fridge over a year ago and it's still there. DO NOT EAT FOOD THAT DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU!!! I have on many occasions thought about putting up the "tinkle" sign, LOL We have various signs in our lounge....from free stuff to things for sale, etc. Every once in a while someone will come along and clean them off.
I agree with Batman and yes it is very annoying when there is no toliet paper. We have 1 housekeeper assigned to us. She is responsible for 6 restroom/lounge/looker room areas, also for keeping the trashcans by the scrub sinks emptied, along with a multitude of other things. So sure pometimes there is no paper, but whats worse that no npaper is the cheap stuff hospitals use, you need a whole roll and it comes off the roll 2 sheets at a time. (that is a whole different rant) She doesn't put up signs but I wouldn't blame her if she did.
I'm not saying you should have to do their job, but look at it this way...if someone was doing little things that add to or make your job more difficult everyday (I'm sure it already happens) would you not want to let them know in some way. For example, if pre-op left the same piece of paper out of your chart on a regular basis wouldn't you call them and say what's the deal, after enough times wouldn't you start writing it up, or calling the supervisor of that dept? Maybe they don't know of a better way to communicate.
Can there not be a schedule made up for the stocking of bathrooms at least every few hours. With our orderlies we assigned one to each hall, they were responsible for assuring the masks etc were stocked, floor and ICU beds brought by the appropriate times, etc They were still to help each other out with all the general moving and turnover but to have someone "responsible" made them more "accountable" it really helped with xome of the problems we had been having.
Anyway, I'm not trying to blame you for anything, I'm just a look at both sides of the coin kinda gal. Are you in a large OR? Is there a reason your stretcher can't stay in the hallway during the case?
Good luck
sandra- thanks for your input. as far as the stretcher situation- there supposedly is a state mandate or such that only allows one stretcher per hallway-- but we have navicare, and its clear when we are closing, and obviously need a stretcher....its just I have so many things to do, that actually having to CALL someone to go wherever it is they go for a stretcher, after my patient is extubated and ready to be transported to pacu....really pisses me off. Really... why should I have to call for such a basic thing?
and yes, it is a very large OR, at a prestigious medical facility. I just cant believe how bad it is sometimes..... I realize that the real core of the problem here is poor management....
and one more word about the toilet seat pee, and then Ill shut up...lol If they are assigned to clean the toilets anyway, why should we have to read a sign about how dirty those toilet seats are?

sandra- yes we have 15, and no, there are apparently not enough of them if we cant keep a stretcher outside the room, or have toilet paper on a consistent basis. this is obviously a dead issue, I think the signs are completely innapropriate. So, can we, as nurses, have T shirts, saying, "dont be a fat pig and stuff your face, because I dont want to have to be the nurse who takes care of you when your sick and weigh 300lbs?" please.... yeah, granted, cleaning toilets is not a great job, but, ***, if someone gets a spot of pee on the toilet, and someone has to clean it up as part of their regular cleaning of that same toilet, that they are supposed to do anyway? and we have to read signs about it? No, I dont think so.
