hairstyles on nurses....your opinion

Nurses General Nursing

what is your opinion on appropriate hairstyles for nurses? i've seen some nurses with hair down to the middle of their backs. maybe they pulled it up when going into pt care, maybe not. wouldnt hair that long get in your way? or get caught on something?

im still a student, so we have to have hair off our collars, and we can't even wear ponytails, b/c htey can swing forward when you lean over. dont think it should be that strict, but i just wonder about the really long hair and how to keep it out of the way when you wear it down to work, unless you pull it up every time you go into a room, which isn't that practical.

whats the general consensus on this?

Specializes in LTC, wound care.

I just had my long hair cut short short short. I got tired of the ponytail, and first cut it into a bob. I liked the feel of the wind blowing through my hair without thinking about how long it would take me to comb out the knots. I cut it even shorter just for fun and to see what it would be like to not have to fool around with my hair at all after it is "done" in the morning.

Also, the BEST thing about patient care nursing is wearing scrubs and not having to worry about fashion or what clothes to wear today. I love just jumping into pressed scrubs fresh from the shower and running in to work. I can dress up on my off time, though my usual at home dress consists of jeans and t-shirts.

Natural occuring shades of hair only allowed at work per policy, neat and well groomed. However,I use clips take less than 30 seconds to put my hair up in a tidy french twist. I buy a new one every so often at the ren-fair, and for approx $50 they are a stylish investment that last for years, solid metal that never break.

I agree!
