H4 to RN..

Hi Suzanne and Other Members,

I just moved in to US on H4 visa with my husband last week.

As of now, my situation in summary is,

1. Compleated Bachelor's and Masters in Nursing outside India.

2. Scored 7.5 in IELTS.

3. Submitted papers to CGFNS for credential Evaluation (CE) 3 months back.

4. State of residence is Connecticut.

I would like to know, what are the steps I could take to achieve RN status here.

a) Can I take the RN test before receiving the Credential Evaluation Report?

b) What's the difference between Visa Screen and CE report?

c) Once I cleared all the exams and receive reports, how long it would take to change my H4 status.

Please help with some info to take things forward from here.

hmm..things are getting complex for me :o

ny-cvs takes a very long time sometimes up to 9-10 months..and this is the time for cvs only-after that nysed will issue you an eligibility letter within a month(hopefully)-

i tot ny has got faster processing time.

prepare for the exam..and at the same time apply in some other bons for initial licensure-for example, vt or nm

why to prefer vt or nm over ct for initial licensure--again procesing time?

would cgfns+ces+ielts gives me eligibility to apply for intial licensure in these states?

yes, u can apply in ct for initial licensure if u possess a cg certificate. but if u already have a license in anotehr state, u can apply for just endorsement..and it is quicker i guess...and again, many states give a temporary license or at least the license number within a week. with that you can work. i am not sure about ct, though.

If things go smoothly, NY can grant approval in just two to four months.

NY does not require the CGFNS exam, and has not for quite some time. When most other states were requiring it, NY and CA were about the only two that did not.

Vermont still takes about one month to issue the license, it is not immediate. Depends on each situation as to where to go for initial licensure and where you are currently located. NY is always to easiest if you are no longer in your home country to get the documents to send in. And the VSC can get done with the same documents.

Hi Suzanne

Is it that the documents submitted for NY CVS can be used for VSC only or the documents submitted for CES can also be used for VSC.

I have applied for VSC and CES at the same time but submitted the documents only once.

Same documents can be used for the CES and the VSC.
