Gwinnett Medical Center PRN RN question..

Anyone work PRN at Gwinnett Medical? If so, do you usually get enough hours a schedule or is it a few here and there? I know it's an excellent hospital to work at but it's too far for me to drive 5 days/week but I've seen they are hiring some PRN's and I love the fact they work 8 hr shifts as well as 12s:yeah:

What department? Floor nursing? If so, they do NOT like people to work 8 hour shifts...it puts the floor and everyone else in a bind when the 8 hours is over. But we do have a few PRN and Part time nurses and they seem to get hours. Good Luck

It's for one of the medical floors...it seems the majority of what's available is 4 hr shifts which are to cover the gap between shift changes. There are about 5 available for the next schedule. I thought for sure there would be a lot more PRN need but it seems like it's not as big as I thought and I am concerned about getting enough time. There is nothing else open now but PRN.

I looked to work here there at one point. REALLY nice hospital..but when I was show the "usual" schedule during my interview I saw there were very few days PRN's were needed (12-16 shifts out of month) and most were 4 hours or nights. I was asked a lot if I would be willing to cover for people on vacation or sick leave which I would have but there was no way to know when that would've been. Too bad. Nice people and place.

can anyone tell me about working at Gwinnett?

I've only been through hospital and nursing orientation and am in the process of getting orientation to the unit to work PRN - so far, I love it. If I lived closer I'd work FT there.

What kind of unit? How is the orientation? How many weeks?

Med/ Surg, orientation is very good, as far as weeks...there is about a week of general/nursing and computer orientation. As far as to the unit itself, that is all individual to the nurses needs.
