Guess what happened to me at clinicals today??? Ugggh

THATS ALL!!! Don't worry about it. I would consider that a GOOD clinical day compared to some that our clinical group has had!

Ummm, yeah... That sounds like a GREAT day to me! I probably would've passed out had I had that many people watching.

Hmm...sounds like you seek approval from the instructor. Not to say that no one does that but many people do, but that case wasn't ANYTHING to stress over. Please stop doubting yourself. If you have to doubt yourself about that you REALLY have nothing to worry about because that wasn't a difficult or shocking thing.

My instructor and a couple other students were in my patients room watching me change a central line dressing and flush all 3 ports. No biggie. Dressing change went beautifully, as did the first 2 flushes....AND THEN...when I went to flush the 3rd, I couldn't twist the syringe on the port. Tried again, and missed again. Tried again, and then my hand started shaking b/c I was SO embarassed and wondering.... "I wonder what my instructor is thinking?" She turned her head (she probably caught on that I was NERVOUS), and then I got it on and flushed without any prob.
She never said anything to me about it, but I hope she doesn't think anything negative about it, like I don't work well with people in the room.
I can't believe that happened.

gee. I thought you were going to say you did something bad, like accidently pulled the central line out or something. the more people watching, the greater chance a fumble fingers episode will occur. no biggie.

i will start to talk to them trying to explain the situation ,what is going on and i will request help from your instructor then she will reliase that this is ubnormal situation

You can flush my central line anytime..Just kidding. You did nothing wrong. Recovery from the fumbling was impressive. You will find in the future families who ask questions at the worst times, let this be a learning experience. Nothing bad happened, no one was injured and you are still in class. Focus on what you are doing not on what everyone else is doing, unless you are working on a behavior unit of course.

I think if it was anything to worry about, your instructor would have stepped in and took over quickly!

Since she turned her head, she knew you are capable and wanted you to relax in order to get the last one finished.

That was nothing! Students were always...well almost...a fun group. Passing out in surgery after not eating breakfast was not too cool so we had the passing out backwards" drill! :chuckle

One student was going to give an injection in this lady's hip. She went right up to the skin and froze. I just pushed her hand and needle in neat as could be. Luckily the lady was on her side and never knew.

Another student shook like she was having a seizure when trying to start an IV. I didn't dare put her in front of a patient so made her start one on my waterhose veins. She did great and never had any problems after that.

Those were the days!
