Hi, Travelers.

Just got offered a 13 week contract on Guam today. In theory, it sounded super adventurous and exciting and amazing. Now that I have the offer, I'm freaking out a little. Has anyone out there ever done a contract on Guam? I wonder about things like living/working conditions (yes, I know Guam is a U.S. Territory and not a third world country) because the island is SO isolated from anything else. I wonder about things to do. I wonder about feeling claustrophobic because you are literally "stranded on a desert island" for the entire 13 weeks. No quick jaunts for sightseeing to neighboring states, etc. There are no neighbors. As near as I can tell, Guam is about a four-hour overwater flight from anywhere.

Round trip airfare and housing are paid. Daily transportation is not. What's the likelihood of getting around Guam without a car? I'm trying to decide if it's worth looking into a long-term car rental or not. I'm fine with walking to and from work...but want to be able to explore every square inch of the island on my days off.

I travel for the money, yes, but more so for the experience. I play hard on my days off, drinking up every experience my location has to offer. If you've done an assignment on Guam, or even know someone who's done military time there, would love to hear about your/their experiences.

So...I guess I'm actually freaking out a lot....

Personally I would take a bike in a bike suitcase. Ride everywhere and I would assume the lodging is close to the hospital. I saw those jobs pop up and I would do it if my son was graduated already...

I second the bicycle idea. Depending though on your preferences, buying one there may less than the airline fees.

It is only 13 weeks! Have fun and don't worry. Things usually work out for things like transportation. Possibly local friends for example.

Did you decide to go? I applied last week for Guam, supposed to interview in a few days. Excited/nervous.

Where are you finding Guam assignments? Are there other islands or countries? Do you need a different license? Real interested in this information as I'm hoping to travel nurse in less than a year. Thanks, TW

Worldwide has Guam assignments. They have their own BON issuing licences. I believe there is a total of 57 BONs in the US system.

I'm going to Guam! Just signed a 13 week contract. Starting middle of January. Can't wait. My family and I live in Manila, so it's close. Never been to Guam but looking forward to working there and exploring the island. ;)

Hi, I messaged you...just happened across this topic...Guam sounds very interesting!

I liked Guam. Great diving / snorkeling. The tourist strip of hotels on the beach is a mini version of Waikiki...

It's a shorter/ cheaper flight from Japan. Guam was known 10 years back for having the most number of cars

per person...or possibly more cars than people. I was able to rent a "Guam Bomb" for $10/day.

Suggest you check Uber and see how many drivers are standing by. There's no reason to get "island Fever".

There is plenty to do and see in 3 months on this tropical Island.

Thanks for the info!!! I'm planning to spend most of each year working in Guam, for the rest of my Life. It's great thats its so close to the Philippines. ;). Thanks for telling me.

Need some direction. I'm looking to head to Guam in August 2018. What travel companies should I look at for contracts?

Thanks so much.

Check out "VERO RN." They have exclusivity to Guam.
