GTCC ADN Spring 2015

Published

I know it's early but I just couldn't wait any longer for a thread to be started. I took my TEAS test today and passed!!! I've met with the advisor to do my ranking...so I guess it's 3 months of anticipation and hoping I get it. With the new changes in the criteria for the program I can only imagine more people will apply making it more competitive for a seat in the program. Anybody else planning to apply for Spring?

I'm taking mine oct 22 at Eagle at Brassfield 6pm. It's Karen Younts class. I missed the one at my job so she said I could come to that one.

I am taking mine at Randolph Hospital Education Center on 10/7. It is only 30 dollars there. I think the class is 1-4, I believe.

Even though this is like a week late I got in too!! I'm so excited to meet everyone and Congratulations to everyone else!!

I'm doing my CPR through CPR Central in Winston Salem. I couldn't find anywhere in Greensboro that was American Heart Association certified, but I should have checked here first cause it looks like there are lots of places!

Oh and just an FYI, I was talking to some friends that are currently in the nursing program at GTCC and they said when we go to orientation the uniform people will try to sell us pen lights, stethoscopes, and BP cuffs and all of the other things we need, but they said don't buy anything from them except our uniforms. Several of my friends bought the pen lights and they broke after only two times using them and the company won't replace them, and they said other people were having trouble with some of the other items they purchased through the company. They said the company sells things for "cheaper" but its the same prices other places the quality is just what is cheap. Just wanted let you know so you won't be wasting money!!

Thanks for the information!

Thanks for the heads up. Is it weird that I am excited about orientation? ; 0)

I am excited, too! I am so anxious to learn kind of an outline to our schedule. It is going to be a big change for me and my job and I hope to make plans in advance, which I know will be difficult.

I know...I heard that things change CONSTANTLY and that they always use the term "be flexible". It's kinda hard to do when you do have to work full time. I'm currently already in the medical field and for the most part my job is in support of me going to nursing school. I however still need to be able to support my household and have a peace of mind and not get burnt out before I'm done with the program. I think for the most part we will be in classes/lab Mon, Wed, Fri 4-7 and then clinic any time Sat/Sun. I heard from a friend that they changed her clinic time/day three weeks into the semester. I guess we will all be flying by the seat of our pants for the next 2 years LOL

I know right! I am trying to prepare myself for all of the challenges lol. I have to work full time too. I luckily have no kids but I have plenty of bills I have to take care of. Luckily, my job is all for me going as well, but my job is home care which is still per diem hours. Blah. I am hoping for a smooth riding first experience. Is the MWF 4-7 like the normal lab hours and then you will have your other classes scheduled around that as well?

From what I gathered MWF will be lecture Mon, Skills lab Wed, Pharm. Lab Fri and then clinical on Sat or Sun. Will vary depending on each student's schedule but that's the typical format.

If you still have other classes to take like abnormal Psy, English, or Algebra...those will have to be taken around those timeframes.

OH gotcha! That won't be that bad then :)

This semester they found out their class schedule on Sunday and started classes on Monday because they won't know which hospitals have openings for clinical until the last minute so that is why we find out so late. Also I know that sometimes for clinical you have to be there about 30 minutes early and get out 30 minutes after you're supposed to so that adds another hour onto the 6 hour clinical! And they recommend going to open lab too so both of those things are adding more time that you have to be there so I think thats why they ask you to be flexible because classes themselves actually require more time than what is actually on the schedule!
