GSU Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello,

I am creating this board for applicants of GSU for Spring 2017 to share information regarding every aspect of the application process. Enjoy!

I received mine today as well, but generally the average GPA for ACE is 3.8, so the applicant pool for Spring 2017 must have had lower GPAs overall. Last semester they didn't accept anyone into ACE below a 3.8, so no need to be dismissive. And yes there is an overall point system, but GPA and TEAS scores weigh more heavily than volunteer hours for example. But again, like I said it all depends on the pool of applicants that applied, it obviously changes each semester, but I wouldn't go forward assuming you're guaranteed a spot if your GPA is lower than a 3.8. Hugh Grant does PT now, but has done nursing forever and he still processed applications with Jamelle this semester - so he is still incredibly knowledgeable with regards to any nursing program questions.

Congrats to you, Carlsen_M on your acceptance! I have not got my acceptance letter (7 to 10 business days in the mail) but an acceptance email today into the ACE program.

I think I see your point, Carlsen_M: information accuracy. I think one purpose of this forum is to hear information from anyone who is on this boat. I think tinko and ntatman gave some general statistics (or averages), although might not expressed accurately, but do not necessarily include every single applicant accepted. For a simplified example, if the average of program GPA of a pool of three accepted applicants is 3.8. Student One has a program GPA of 4.0. Student Two has a program GPA of 3.8. Then Student Three has to have a program GPA of 3.6. Just because one accepted applicant does not have a high program GPA does not necessarily indicate the program GPA of the entire pool is low. Moreover, GSU also looks at a few other factors such as TEAS, science GPA, etc. I think we should try to exchange information freely but as accurately as possible and let the readers be the judges.

@FTE - exactly. The problem with what tinko and ntatman were saying above is that there's literally at times a program gpa cutoff line, and that's just not the case (never has been as they dictate who gets in off a variety of subjects - something multiple advisers have told me). And @ntatman that's not being dismissive that's basically calling you out for putting up an erroneous statement that could mess with other peoples' heads who are trying to apply to the school. Yes, having a great GPA helps you out a lot, but it's not a sole factor and you can get in with a lower GPA if your Science GPA and TEAS scores are good. Oh, and you say Hugh Grant is this incredibly knowledgeable guy, but he's the same guy who said no one would get into ACE this semester with a Program GPA below a 3.8. How does that add up? (It doesn't.) Either you misheard him or he was misinformed.

Ok, Carlsen_M I understand your point but I am relaying information I have heard from all advisors, not just Hugh. Shooting for a 3.8 and 85+ on the TEAS makes you extremely competitive, so I still recommend that as a motivator. I will definitely let him know he is misinformed. Congratulations to you and fte2016 your acceptance, excited to meet you next semester! Have a great break y'all!

I also said, no one was accepted to ACE last (Fall) semester with a GPA under a 3.8. Not this semester, just to clarify. So, again it varies with each group of applicants.

Congrats to you, ntatman, on your acceptance too!

@Ntatman Nowhere in your previous comment do you mention last Fall semester. Seriously, what are you talking about? And like FTE said before, you (or Hugh Grant) are confused as far as average vs. cutoff. I have heard too that the average ACE Program GPA is a 3.8, but there is no set cutoff point (this semester or last). In fact I've heard of people in the past who had a Program GPA as high as a 3.9 who didn't get in because their other scores weren't as high. Like I've said multiple times before, this is a multi-factored process. And it's just not right to insinuate to future applicants that there's this extremely high ledge that if you don't reach you're automatically out. Like if someone has a great Science GPA and TEAS and great writing skills with the essay, etc., he/she shouldn't not apply to ACE because their Program GPA doesn't match the 3.8 ledge.

And I'm referring to your comment made on November 11th. Your comment and Tinko's comment were the reasons for my initial comment today that was meant for future applicants reading this thread.

Overall, the fact is on November 11th Tinko wrote that the ACE cutoff Program GPA for this semester was a 3.8. You followed up with that person and agreed with him/her, saying that's what Hugh Grant said. Today, I got accepted into the ACE program with a Program GPA lower than a 3.8. So, you two were incorrect. And I want other people to not feel disenfranchised from applying because of your incorrect statements.

I said the averages are usually at least a 3.8 and 85+ on TEAS, agreeing that yes the averages are that high (key word average). Then I said Last semester no one was accepted with a GPA lower than a 3.8. I never used the word cutoff. I said I agreed with most of the averages I was seeing - I am not incorrect in saying that. But I apologize, my goal was not to disenfranchise anyone. I also emphasized each time that the averages vary with each applicant group. I honestly don't care to argue with you, but I do think it is unwise to assume because you got in with your stats that they would as well. I am pretty sure anyone applying to GSU is well aware of this, especially if they meet with an advisor. You are right, it is multi-factored - again with GPA and TEAS having the most points and weight.

I think positive things can result from healthy debates. I personally admire both of you on keeping the conversation constructive and positive. I can see with members like you guys, the class 2018 would be a very interesting class to be in. Thank you both.

And thank you fte2016! A great bit of news to get us through the end of this semester!
