GSU Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello,

I am creating this board for applicants of GSU for Spring 2017 to share information regarding every aspect of the application process. Enjoy!

Yea absolutely FTE. How are you feeling confidence-wise?

I try not to overthink about this although difficult. If I get in, great! If not, not the end of the world. I think my chance is average based on the statistics from 2015. What about you, Carlsen_M?

I like your thought process - no need to get too caught up with getting in or not. Would you mind sharing what you know about the 2015 stats?

To be honest, I do feel pretty confident I'll get in. The hardest part was making sure everything got in on time, in the correct format, etc. But now that my application is "complete," I do think I have a decent shot merit-wise. The one caveat - I have zero volunteer hours. So it will be interesting to see if that plays a major factor in to my acceptance.

I posted all I know (stats) on my second post on Oct. 16.

I do not know how much each part of the application packet weighs. It would be very nice for them to tell the applicants somewhere on their website. However, I was told during the Nursing Info. Session that the Program GPA, science GPA and TEAS score are the most important factors.

Right, I've heard that too - Program GPA, Science GPA, and TEAS are the Big 3. GSU is annoyingly secretive as far what their specific parameters are for the average accepted student. I'm impressed you were able to find the average Program GPA from last year.

Do you know of other people who got in recently? I know one accepted person (Fall 2016) who had good GPA's and an 85 TEAS. From past searches on this site, it seems like you have a good chance if your GPA's are above a 3.7 and an 85+ TEAS.

No, I don't know anyone in person. As far as the stats, they were given during the nursing information session in September. Had you gone there, you should have got those too. From reading the last a couple years' posts on this site, I also noticed the averages of the accepted GPA's and TEAS scores are in an increasing trend...

Weird - I'm sensing a condescending-like attitude from you here. I'll chalk it up to the stressful environment. (Your nursing information session gave you one statistic - average program GPA - so it's incorrect to assert that as the session giving you the "stats.")

I've recently spoken to two different GSU nursing advisors and neither one of them could give me any specific information as far as GSU's average GPA's were concerned. They also weren't even sure about the TEAS score, except that they thought the average would most likely be lower than past years. This is what I meant about GSU being annoyingly secretive, or at the very least vague.

Regardless, none of this is in our hands now.

Sorry, Carlsen_M if my words did not come out right to you. I was only trying to say that I did not have to find these stats I posted. They were given during an info. session.

I guess they might not have the stats from 2016 or 2017 yet when you asked them? When the demand (150 to 200 some applicants) is so much more than the supply (only approximately 70 seats), I guess they could afford to be secretive or act however they like, not that I personally agree with the way they conduct themselves. Like you said, we do not have much control of anything at this point. I found the following information on stats from 2013 applicants. Check it out.

The GPA to get in for ACE is definitely much higher than the traditional program. I believe Hugh Grant told me 3.8 was the cutoff for this current ACE semester.

As far as volunteering is concerned, it adds 1 point to your application. It's useful if you're a few decimal points away from the cutoff. They evaluate your application and assign points with the total being 30, I think.

And they look at your GPA, science GPA, TEAs, Essay, Letters, Volunteering. Not sure how many points are given for each, but they are given in descending order with Volunteering contributing 1 point to your application. Again, although it's not a lot, it helps if you're on the cusp of the cutoff.

Personally, I didn't submit any volunteering info. However, if y'all are still interested in volunteering aside from this application, there is something called MedShare. You just need to sign up to be a volunteer. There isn't a long process to try and interview there to be a volunteer. What they do is repackage perfectly usable medical supplies and ship them to third world countries or send them along medical missions that service places with inaccessible healthcare. These are items that are not expired just have damaged packing boxes and are all donated by medical facilities around the city (so if you also know anyone that can donate those things, you can send them along to MedShare) and would typically be thrown in a landfill although the product is safe to use. I volunteer here from time to time, and they also do Saturdays. The time goes by really fast, and everyone is very nice. Just throwing this out there.

Good luck to everyone! My application also says the same thing...

Hey all,

Congratulations on applying to the program! The stats that I have seen for average GPA and TEAS scores are pretty accurate. 3.8 GPA at the least for ACE, and an 85+ for TEAS. However, it really depends upon the pool of applicants. Hugh has told us that we would hear about decisions the week before break and Jamelle has told me we would hear the week after. I have also heard from students who are currently in the ACE program that they received an email regarding admissions before their status on the application status check website updated, so you may not even want to check your status update (I stopped looking for the sake of my sanity). Have a great break everyone, and good luck!

This comment is for all future GSU applicants looking at this thread. Please disregard the above two comments made by tinko and ntatman. I received my acceptance letter today into the ACE program, and I do not have a Program GPA above a 3.8. There is no cutoff point with GPA, because they grade applicants on a total points basis. Yes, Program GPA is important and weighs heavily into the system, but it's obviously not the only thing that matters.

Another thing: take anything Hugh Grant says with a huge grain of salt. I don't think he's a nursing adviser anymore anyways. An excellent nursing adviser is Justin LeFantano, although I think he only works with people who are currently enrolled at GSU. Jamelle Funchess is also pretty solid, but not as good as Justin.
