GSU Fall 2016

Published

Hi! Anyone applying to GSU Fall 2016? I am planning on applying for both traditional and accelerated. Have a Psychology degree from GSU (2013), graduated Magna Cum Laude (hope that matters!). I had a 3.86 overall GPA at GSU before taking science pre-reqs. Does anyone know how they calculate their GPAs? I currently have a 3.46 at GPC.

Have a 86.7 on TEAS. 97th percentile on both.

Have 2 LOR being written.

Yea, i applied to ksu and got a denial letter last Friday :( I was actually considering retaking a few math and sciences just to raise my stats so that those 6 courses don't go to waste and I can stay at Ksu. But I called the advisor, and she said that higher grades don't replace lower grades, they're averaged out. So it would kind of be pointless to retake a course I got a b in.

As for programs, I can't answer that. I just know the environments. Ksu has a newer campus, and looks like a traditional college. It's in a suburban area where everything is down the street and super safe. Gsu is in downtown, so it's a little iffy and its an urban environment. And Ksu's nclex I heard was at 96% pass rate. Ksu is a little more competitive cause their min to apply in the program is 2.5 so there is a huge pool of applicants. Plus they don't require volunteer hours, essays or letter of recommendations. It's literally just math and science gpa, cumulative gpa, teas score, and pre req gpa

@leannadinh does that rule only apply if you retook the classes at KSU?

Any more opinions on GSUvsKSU?

@bernie I never asked that specifically. But I think it applies in general cause I got a b in college algebra at Georgia perimeter, then retook it at ga perimeter and still got a b lol it ended up lowering my gpa cause an extra b was factored in

Well at GPC you have to earn a higher grade in order for it to replace your previous grade. but I'll have to look into that more if I need to reapply to KSU

Hey everyone! I applied for Ace and Traditional this semester.. this wait is terrible! My stats are not great. I have a 3.68 program, 3.78 science, and an 81 TEAS. I have a degree already, which is what brought down my gpa (luckily GSU doesn't look at overall!). I was a veterinary technician before going back to school, so I am hoping that works to my advantage.. I am not sure how or if that would factor into my points. I feel like I am right on the fence for getting in. I got denied from Emory and Kennesaw, but did get into Mercer, so at least I have a back up..but really want Ace at GSU! Hopefully we will begin to find out in the next week or two.

I think your stats are great! Congrats on getting into Mercer! I'm wondering why KSU denied you, when they told me average GPA they accept is 3.7. But they look at overall GPA and not just program, so that could be why. My only back up is working as a CNA, because I just got licensed in February. Hopefully my experience as a CNA will help me get some experience and my foot in the door when I become a new grad as an RN.

Thanks! Yeah my overall is only a 3.1 and is why I got denied. However, Mercer accepted me with a 3.1..they really look at everything though. I like that I had the opportunity to write an essay about myself and am pretty sure that's why I got it. You should apply there. Their priority deadline is April 1, and final is May 1. They are more expensive though. Being a CNA will be great for your resume and nursing applications!

Hey @GDWind I think you have a good shot! Congrats on getting into Mercer! Their tuition has always deterred me from applying, as well as the additional prereqs that they require.. I was just reconsidering applying, but then I read that they don't accept science classes that were taken online -.-

Hey @Berniex312, that's too bad about Mercer! Maybe it's worth a shot to call and ask an advisor if they will make exceptions about science classes? I know some of the prereqs (religion and nutrition for example) can be taken in the summer between your first and second year of nursing school too..so that may also be an option. Has anyone heard anything more about when GSU emails are going out? Or know of anyone getting an email?

Literally everyone but GSU has sent notifications out. GSU Perimeter College is even out. WOW GSU.
