Grumpy at change of shift (11-7)

Hey I know this is going to sound really silly, but here goes. I'm fine all shift but when day shift comes in, all bright eyed and bushy tailed - it gets to me. All I want to do is give report and run out the door. No time to dilly dally because I just want to go home. I turn into grumpy cat. I've never been like this while working 3-11. Does anyone else experience this phenomenon?

I was always grumpy when a particular person was supposed to be the day charge nurse. Charges were supposed to be in almost half an hour before shift change to get report from the Noc charge so they could begin making assignments and have everything together for the AM bed control meeting. This particular person wouldn't arrive until 6:30 and then they went to the breakroom to primp and brush their teeth. The night nurses were late getting out, and day nurses were then having to play catch up.

I have the opposite issue. My day shift relief comes in looking like a troll that is actively eating a lemon the entire time I'm giving report.

Omg this!! ^ love it! Couldn't describe it better

I'd be completely fine up until certain day staff would chat to each other about their weekend or start organising their shift through handover when all I need is their undivided attention for 15 min so I can get the heck outta there!! I got a reputation for demanding everyone just shut the **** up during handover! Of course I'd make sure I gave the same courtesy to the afternoon staff when I came back on duty that night. As with the end of any shift, you just want to handover the info and be on your merry way!

When I worked nights and certain staff would arrive late for report and THEN waste time talking about their weekend......very annoying. I'm hungry, I want to give report and leave.

Do I work with you?

I am known for looking a bit scary during report nothing personal, it just takes me a while to wake up and get going.

At the place I work now, day shift comes in, clocks in at the door at 0658, goes to get coffee, then comes on the unit 10-15 min late for report.

Drives me crazy. Shift ends at 0700 and I don't leave until 0740 because I can't find anyone to give report to.

This is not acceptable. I do clock in a 0659, but I just take a quick looks at my pts rhythms on the monitor and I'm ready to go. I even put my lunch away after report.

A lot of our night people want to arrive at 1900 then look up labs before report...umm no.

I would mention to those individuals that you need to give report and leave. They can get coffee after report has been given, or come in earlier.

Oh, I do. Trust me.

If it keeps up, there will be a reckoning.
