GRU CNL 2014 entering class

Published

Is anyone applying early decision for the 2014 entering class? Does anyone know how long it takes to get a decision/interview email? Does anyone know the statistics for acceptances from last year?

Has anyone else received acceptance call lately?

Just got my acceptance call today!

MrsJTL,

Thank you for the great information. You said ECHO is a school recording system, how does that work?

Salju,

ECHO is a recording system that the professors use during lectures. They have a lapel mic that records what they say and a video that records the slides or videos that they present. Also, they will use it to record the remainder of a lecture if they don't finish during class time, or sometimes you will have class lectures and then online lectures you are responsible for listening to on your own time. Usually your lecture outlines/slides are posted before class so you can follow along and add your own notes. Remember, this is an accelerated program and you will most likely not be able to catch everything in every class, so luckily they post the recordings to "Desire 2 Learn" (the learning system where all your assignments and correspondence takes place), so you can access it later. BUT sometimes they forget to record it, or something happens with the system where everything is garbled or just doesn't load at all, so it is ALWAYS a good idea to record on your own (get a free app for your phone even).

What is nice about Echo is that you can speed up, pause, or slow down the lectures. Some professors give you a lot of information and talk really fast, and some lecture slowly but have most of the information in their notes so you can speed them up to save time if you are just reviewing.

**This is a convenience that they provide for us, not a reason to skip class and do it on your own, so don't abuse it. Attendance is not currently REQUIRED but they do take attendance and they use it to consider placement for activities with restricted available spots, so keep that in mind too. =o)

Hey is anyone looking for a roommate for Augusta? I currently live in savannah but need a place to stay during the week. Not sure how the class schedule will be, but I would like to go home when we have off days.

I feel you! I live in Statesboro and commute to Augusta for classes. I typically stay here Mon-Thurs depending on my schedule but I do go home on the weekends! It sucks sometimes but you can do it for 16 months! I'll tell you where all the cops wait on your route! ha ha =o)

MrsJTL, what are some of the restricted available spot activities?

MrsJTL, what are some of the restricted available spot activities?

This year we have an opportunity to participate in a 2 day FEMA training and there are only ~58 spots and 70 students that are interested. So they look at your grades, attendance and clinical evaluations to determine priority. They also use this information to determine placement for your practicum/residency choices for your last semester, i.e. if 7 students want to work in the Emergency Department and there are only 4 spots.

MrsJTL,

Thank you for the wonderful and insightful information you have given throughout this thread! Even the little things can be overwhelming, so your "pearls" are greatly appreciated!

Is it possible to change the Campus location once you were accepted in one of the location?

Did you get into the CNL program for the upcoming fall semester?

Sorry! I got an email about your response and thought it was directly too me!

Does anyone know if it is mandatory to have a hard copy of all text books? Also are these needed by the first day of class?

It's actually pretty convenient to have electronic versions of the books because you don't have to tote them around with you and also depending on the site you use, you can cut and paste sections into your lecture notes. You do not need them before the first day of class, but shortly after. This is an accelerated program and the tests come up pretty quickly. You will have some online classes and the testing for those is required on a locked browser. So although those tests are "open book/open note" you will not be able to access your online texts unless you have multiple computers so keep that in mind. =o)
