...put the names of the people in the sections of the paper that they were suspose to do and leave that entire section blank; e.g.,

the purpose of alegbra done by- insert name here.

leave blank

the section of the paper you worked on - your name.

~ type-in your info.

or write:

your name next to each subheading of the paper.

this will definitely look f*cked up...but the instructor really needs to *see* and *know* who really did what.

or if that's too out there...why not have a table of content page and on that write your name next to each & every section that you wrote and leave a blank next to the other participants' names. it would look mighty stupid that other names are on the front of the paper...but obivously didn't work on it.

another suggestion, why not ask the teacher to let your group give an oral presentation as extra credit and say so'n so will present the areas of the paper that they'd worked on. you volunteer to do the first part...then look at the others to do their part. make it a spare of the moment suggestion & watch the rest of them squirm! should you do this...make sure that they (the other non-participants) don't have a copy of the paper handy either. you could, however, use cue cards...being the prepared one ~ that would teach them to f*ck with you :devil: !

The instructor knows I'm doing the work. The reward...heading a project for the entire class, LOL.

It's ok. I have only 4 weeks to go.

I have actually been involved in some great groups. Everyone pulled their own weight, and I knew them, knew the quality of work would be high. This bunch, like y'all said, at least I know it will get done, and done well.

Update:

I worked my a** off all last night to finish both papers. I finished them both. Phew! The math I am still really pissed off at because when my other group member's e-mailed me, the pieces I assigned for them to do were incomplete and I didn't get their e-mails til late so it was already too late to call and clarify. Plus they only sent me answers, not the work to get them so I left some spaces where they could manually write out their work. One of them didn't even finish and was trying to write his answer in DURING CLASS! I had to bring it in early so they could do this which was a real rush for me because I have a class at 7:30 before math so I only have approx. 10 minutes to get to my class (on the other side of campus too). We have to fill out evaluations for all of the group members and some of them I'm scoring really low. I'm giving one kid a 2 and another a 3 (out of 5). I think it might be harsh though because this project is 20 pts. of our final grade. None of them really did a "above and beyond the call of duty" kind of job but I gave the other 2 people 5's because at least they were willing to help and showed up to meetings. Do you think that is harsh? I'm still pissed off though because I got practically no sleep because I was trying to rework the problems so I could figure out how they got their answers so I could type it into the report. If I get anything less than an A because of their lack of preparation and effort, than I don't know what I'll do...but it will not be good. What do you think? Should I score them higher?

Are you feeling guilty about giving them the score they deserve? I actually think you are being generous in your scoring. They knew that this project was a large percentage of their grade, and that the people they are working with have to score each other, and they are the ones who made the choice not to do the work that was required. It sounds like you were inconvenienced a great deal by their lack of effort, so score them accordingly. :)

I also think you are being generous in scoring. They took advantage of you. Bet they do that all the time and will be the ones in nursing jobs who show up late and slack off too. This is why I do not like group projects I am always the one stuck doing the work. I will be curious to find out how they score you. Please let us know.

I realize this won't help you a bit, since your project is completed. I personally hate group projects- I always end up being the one who does the most work and ends up 'pulling' the rest of the group up behind me. I had a group project to do in nursing school a while back. We were assigned multiple partners, and our group got 'Alternative Medicinal Practices' as our randomly selected topic. We arranged to meet at the library on a certain day at a certain time. I was the only one who showed up. I spent six long hours at the library, looking things up and gathering materials for the group. I went back to class and mentioned that no one showed up (they all had excuses, none of which seemed legitimate) but did NOT mention that I had done all the research. We agreed that each person would be responsible for presenting their own 'section' of the assignment in class, and that was that. I went home, completed the project, made a handout packet, etc. On the day of the presentation, I arrived prepared. I arrived late, purely by accident, which meant that we didn't have a chance to discuss anything prior to the class beginning. When it was our turn, we were called up individually to present our part of the project. Student #1 was called up and had nothing to present. Student #2 was called up and looked at me helplessly. Student #3 hemmed and hawed, and only after they'd all shown that they didn't have any work prepared did I get up and present the whole project while they stood behind me. We got an 'A' for that project, which was fine with me, because it was quite obvious that they had not done a lick of work, but it was also obvious that everyone now knew that. I spoke to the teacher afterwards and apologized profuesely. I told her my efforts to get everyone together had gone ignored, that no one had shown up at the library (and we had arranged at least three different times in a three week period) to help prepare, etc. She granted them all credit for the project, which sucks, but it was worth it to me to be able to stand up there and present this thing knowing that the whole time their faces were burning behind me. There are lazy people out there, and though I would have preferred by leaps and bounds if they had actually helped to present this thing, I did feel somewhat justified in the end. Hope this all works out in your favor! ;>)

your kindness and hard work will pay off. you have given what they deserve or may be more than they deserve, so don't feel bad.

since you did not eliminate them from the project all together, some score of more than 0 is necessary.

you are a team player/leader and will carry your weight on the job too. it's a shame that those in your group didn't understand this.

Thanks everyone for your imput. I think I might just lower the score a little bit because I DID do all the work afterall and they knew from the start that the other group members were going to evaluate them and that it was 20 pts. of your grade. Your right, RN2bNC, I shouldn't feel bad giving them the grade they deserve. It is just so out of character for me since I'm not used to being so harsh. But I definitely would not want to work with them or be under their care if they decided to go into nursing with me, let alone be assigned to another group project with them. :eek: Thanks again guys. :kiss
