if given a choice, which do you prefer to take GRE or MATs??

I chose the MAT.. I thought it would be easier.. and I think it was..... so if a choice, the MAT

I did the MAT because I HATE math! I did pretty well on it.

I've taken both (the GRE more than once since I had more than 5 years between my Masters and PhD).

I did very well on both. In my opinion, the MAT draws upon how much and what you read. There were many questions on vocabulary, mythology, characters from literature, etc). I've always been a voracious reader - especially of world literature and history.

The GRE evaluates not only your verbal ability but also your quantitative skills (word problems, algebra, geometry, fractions, graph reading, etc). It also has two sample essays to write. Because it assesses verbal, quantitative reasonsing, and writing skills -- most people view it as "tougher".

Now that I am on the other side of the table (as one who does admissions and teaches), I think that the GRE is the more appropriate test for nursing because of the triad of data/evidence/practice. The MAT, I feel, is more appropriate for the humanties discipline, or perhaps areas such as education or counselling.

A few months ago I asked this same question and ended up taking the MAT on the advice of other posters here and the program to which I had applied. The program accepted both MAT and GRE but most students took the MAT. I did several practice tests prior to taking the MAT and bought a couple of review books, which helped tremendously. I did well.
