it appears that the accelerated nursing programs are highly competitive. What advice would you give a person who would be applying to this type of program as a second degree and has absolutely no ties to the healthcare profession? Volunteering??

Am I better to retake undergrad courses? Or should I start with graduate level courses (anatomy & physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology etc.) to prove I can do the work? This is something I really want to do, but unfortunetly my undergrad gpa is not in my favor.

He's applying to SUNY Stonybrook. 12 month program that he will finish with a BS in nursing. So from there, he can go back for his MSN? That's pretty cool. He obviously want to get experience first. I am just not sure on cost of this program? Does anyone know?

Does anyone know the cost of SUNY Stonybrook's BS accelerated nursing program? the 12 month one?

...my husband already has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He is taking his nursing prerquisites now for the program(A & P I & II, CHEMISTRY, MICROBIOLOGY, AND BIOLOGY) and will be applying for a 12 month accelerated nursing program. After the 12 months, he will graduate with a BS in nursing. My question is...what exactly does this mean? does that mean he can work on a unit and that's it? Can he go back for his MSN from here or no? I'm confused because some people say yes, others say he'll have to go back to school for his BSN. but then again it depends on the accelerated program you enter right??

one quick question....I was told by one of the CRNA's I work with that a cheaper CRNA school is more competitive. Is that true? It seems to me that more expensive programs carry quite a reputation too so, aren't they competitive as well? I was searching cost of schools- what are yours running if you don't mind me asking? AND.....are they any hidden fees/costs I should also incorporate? how much extra do you take out for "cost of living"? My husband will be working too during my schooling.

Do I just go and buy a GRE study book, study from that and then take test? AND....I plan on retaking A & P I & II, taking a chem, and retaking microbiology. Should I take them at a college/university or can I take them at a community college? Does it matter as long as they transfer?

Thank you so much for your great advice. I actually struggled with A & P in my freshman year. So I guess I should retake them. I currently work in the OR which I can also get certified (CNOR) equivalent to icu's CCRN. Is it worth it for me to stay in the OR another year to obtain that (I feel OR experience doesn't count toward CRNA school) or immediately apply for an icu position, get my CCRN and apply for anesthesia school? Would it look better if I had both CNOR and CCRN certifications?

if given a choice, which do you prefer to take GRE or MATs??

what are your thoughts on an accelerated nursing program? are they considered just as good to the job market to become a nurse through an accelerated nursing program vs a bachelor or associate degree program? My husband currently has his bachelor degree in criminal justice and is going to go back to school through the accelerated nursing program for his RN. Does he have a good chance of getting a job once he's finished? Could it help that he would be a male nurse too( I noticed male nursing jobs are quite needed and popular) help me out...what are your thought? Thanks!

you talk to your patient about updating his DNR status, and he chuckles as he writes to you "IF CPR FAILS, CALL IT QUITS" and you know then and there your days doesn't get any better than that!

when you were dealing with an unstable patient all day and then you finally have to call a code at 645, then you end up staying until 9 to do all the paperwork! ugh....
