I'm planning to apply to graduate school. I know that not all programs require the GRE but I want to take it to boost my applications. I'm looking for study guide advice and personal experiences with the exam.
I appreciate any input!
Sure I will send you a PM with tips on how to get a high score. If anyone else wants advice, let me know.
Hi mzaur,
I know this is an old posting but I'm unable to PM. If you could send me some info, it would be greatly appreciated. I could give you my email address as well. Thanks in advance!
Lucillern1,
The GRE site has a lot of free information regarding test content, practice questions, etc. How you learn should determine your study style, but there are many ways to prepare. I have friends who have taken those prep-classes and did awesome on the GRE, but they are also very expensive. My husband and I just borrowed every recent GRE book our public library and did all the practice questions. I think this worked well because each brand of book is a little different and has different strengths/weaknesses. If your library has a small selection you can ask them to request copies from other libraries, just make sure they are recent as the test was changed in 2010. We also bought flash cards off amazon for vocab. He did really well and just did these things for about 3 weeks prior. If you look online there are lots of different GRE prep methods, suggestions and practice tests, in addition to many study guides/prep available for purchase.
I'm preparing for the GRE too. I bought The Official Guide to the GRE 2nd Eddition by ETS, because they designed the GRE. I also bought one of their supplemental books Official GRE Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions. I think I'll also get the Quantitative Reasoning book too. Lastly, I purchased the "Official GRE Mobile App" from ETS. These tools have been super helpful so far! I am learning a lot and feel better about somewhat knowing what to expect on the assessment. I also like how they provide the background about the forms of assessments and scoring. There are also a bunch of practice assessments and actual essays from test-takers along with the scoring results. I plan on taking the GRE this July; good luck to you too! I hope that this was helpful!
Take lots and lots of practice tests. I used Barron's book, Kaplan's New GRE book, and Barron's 800 words (can be found on quizlet), among other resources. PM me if you want more info. I scored very well and can give you some tips (1450, 5.0)
