Nobody is talking about their GRE scores so I thought it will be nice to start a new thread. It may interest students applying to MEPN programs!

Did you get in the MEPN program at UCSF? What were your GRE scores (V, Q, Writting)?

Are you a prospective student? What score did you get on the GRE if you already passed it?

...

Yeah I've been wondering about what the overall GRE scores are like for those applying to the MEPN '08 class. I just took it for the first time and did ok....a 520 M, 640 V, 4 W. I dread taking that thing again though. UGh! I am currently a senior at UCLA with a 3.8 GPA and am applying to UCSF so that I'll be able to jump right into it after graduation. I chose the ANP-CNS Psych track (I am a Psych major). I dont know how heavily they look at volunteer experience.....I dont think it hurts though. Im currently volunteering as a clinical care extender program at ucla hospital and have previously worked at a substance abuse treatment center for two years. I'm incredibly hopeful....I really want to get an interview! What track has everyone else applied to? Does anyone know how competitive the ANP-CNS Psych track is?

I'm going to take my GRES this coming November, so we'll see where I place.

addie516 you have some pretty great qualifications. I'm not sure how much volunteer experiences will weigh, but I'm sure it counts.

I'm still deciding my speciality right now, but have an idea.

My grades sort of sucked, will they even give me a chance?

I took the GRE twice.

in aug I got

560 M 410 V and 4.5 W

then in oct i got

680 M 380 V (??)W

so I know my verbal was really low and my math was pretty high.

what did others get?

620 V, 610 M, 5.0 Writing

I took it for the first time a few years prior and my writing score was actually better but my total score only went up by 10 points. So I figured I'd just stick with these ones. :)

As someone who didn't get into UCSF a few years ago and has since talked to many people who did/didn't, I will tell you they look VERY favorably on pt care experience. Essentially, if you don't have it, you're not getting in, for the most part. I had stellar GRE scores and a good GPA and didn't get in. Every single person I spoke to who got in had significant direct patient care experience.

Addie,

Looks like we have a bit in common, I graduated with a Psych degree from UCLA in '04 and Im currently a CCE at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach. I'm surprised I haven't come across more CCEs around here...I'm not seeking entrance to UCSF though. Good luck!

Hey Elizabells,

Can I ask you a very honest question? So I have quite a bit of patient care experiene, I am an RT in the NICU and PICU. I went to school for 2 years to get my credentials, but this was all post-bac work.

My undergrad GPA is nothing to be excited over (3.3), but it was a really long time ago. In your opinion in regards to MEPN acceptance, how much do you think undergrad GPA really matters vs patient care experience?

By the way, which NICU do you work in?

Hey rinnop-

my gres: Verbal 580

Math-650

Writing 5.5

It falls in an acceptable range, but nothing eye popping

I dont believe that GREs are really going to tip the scales one way or another. I just dont buy that it accurately represents a candidate's potential....but thats just my opinion. What do you think?

Hello everyone! I took the GREs twice. The first time: 600V, 690Q, 3W (yikes!!)

The second time: 650V, 670Q, 4W. The only score that worries me is my writing score.

Hi all! I've been lurking around the forum for several months now. I have to do something with my pre-interview letter anxiety so here I am! I took the GRE in September and scored a 650 V, a 660 M (pleasant surprise!) and a 4.5 on the writing (bah). Good luck to everyone! -Kristin

Hi Eliza! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! Question for you...from your experiences or others you've spoken to were initial rejection letters sent out at the same time as interview letters? How about for those who were interviewed, but didn't make it past that stage...did those letter go out at the same time as acceptance notices?

From the looks of it you were successful in getting in to another school..where did you end up going? What did you think of that program?
