Come in and tell me about the Grand Rapids area. My dh and I are thinking about moving to the area from San Diego. We just can't handle CA living anymore, plus I want to be closer to my family in Indiana. Grand Rapids looks beautiful from what ive been researching.

Any info would be great!

You want to know the starting rate for RNS or LPNS ?

Grands rapids is too freaking cheap period .

It's also cheaper to live in the Grand Rapids area than the east side of the state.

Ann-synder, i too had been thinking of taking a CENA class since last year with my prereqs but kept deciding against it as i have a full time job and pay wouldn't be good with it. was considering it for the "experience in a hospital setting" but hey, i am waiting to hear from the nursing programs i applied to.

Ann-synder,

i was wondering about the pay for RNs.

As far as I know i hear many people say $21.75 - 31.55 dollars and hour . I guess it depends on how much experience one have.

Bony---I grew up in Lansing and moved to Grand Rapids in High School and now live in NE indiana--and LOVE it...come on--Indiana is great. GR is nice dont get me wrong- I still have family there, but it is so expensive and honestly I just dont like that much snow. In Indiana we actually have 4 seasons. I only had to get my shovel out twice this year. oK ENOUGH of me trying to talk you into moving to Indiana...

I actually logged on to your MI page to inquire about union hospitals in MI. Specifically Coldwater MI right across the Indiana/Michigan line. I know a lady that just hired on there and was impressed by her hourly wage--the DON said "that is cause were union" are most of the MI hosp union???

It depends on the area whether the hospitals are union are not. None of the hospitals in GR are union but GR is historically a non-union town. Both of the hospitals in Lansing are unionized. I know one of the hospitals (Borgess) in Kzoo is union but am not sure if Bronson is.

"are most of the MI hosp union??? " No, most hospitals in MI are definately NOT union. I'm very happy with the hospital I work for. $25./hr and up.

AnnaN5 - to answer your question, Bronson is non-union.

Ahh, that sounds wonderful to me. Since I grew up in NW Indiana, im sure the weather is pretty much the same.

Do you have any suburbs that I should look into around the Grand Rapids area? More so on the north side?

Hi there!

Hey, I am a Realtor in Grand Rapids (not practicing who is going into nursing. I thought I might be able to help give you some insight on the area. Grand Rapids is really a beautiful area. Like many others have said its big but not too big and there is alway something to do. You can check out the several of the many of the downtown attractions. We have several halls and a large arena where we host large concerts. Just north of toun the country is speckled with tons of lakes, streams and a rivers. Michigan actually has some of the most federal land in the nation. So if you enjoy snowmobiling, hiking, x country skiing, or atving....there are all sorts of trails. As for areas on the north end of town. Well it all depends on how far or how long you would like to commute. If you would like to be about 12-15mins from town (not including rush hours) you could live in Rockford (which has a great downtown area, nice trout river called the rougue, and beautiful countryside), or Sparta (small town in the middle of apple country...with beautiful orchards abound). A little further north (20min commute) you could choose Cedar Springs (smaller town with nice countryside) or Kent City (smallest so far, and about 8 miles from the highway). So really it depends on where you want to be...closer to work or closer to country. As for me, ....I have a 40 min commute,....but I think I live in God's Country. I live in a small community located on one of the largest rivers in Michigan, The Muskegon. We are a community situated on a large dam (Croton) just down stream a mile from an even larger Hardy Dam. So at the bottom of the dam we have some of the very best trout & samon fishing Michigan has to offer and above the dam is about 1500 acres of all-sports lake. I am surrounded by National Forest and close to all of the trails. Everything we like to do here.....so Id rather be closer to our ativities.

If you have any questions about any of the areas just send me a message. I grew up in the Jenison, Hudsonville, Grandville area. But since being a Realtor, I am well versed in all of the surrounding communities.

Best of Luck!!!

Audrey
