Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
You are very young compared to me.. however, I so enjoy your joy! That is what I need... I need a community of ppl who understand, I need to learn...
Yeah, well I'm not that much younger than you, and I just completed my BSN.
If this has been a lifelong dream of yours, and something you will regret NOT doing, then go for it. I never thought of going back to school after I graduated from my ADN program in 1988/89. I always wanted my BSN, but with kids, home buying and life, it was something that I never thought I would have.
Fast forward to leaving the workforce for nearly 5 years and returning full time. I figured if I was now going to be FT breadwinner, etc.. that I would increase my pay by becoming certified. I'm a med/surg nurse at heart and job, lol, so I studied like a fiend for this test. My first life changing event came when I took a 16 week certification course through one of the local universities. The women teaching the class were either in a masters program or doctorate and all of them at least mid forties with most being in the 50-60 range. This sounds dumb, but my first thought was "Who goes to school at *that* age? However, every one them, during their intro, told us that learning was a lifelong thing and nobody was ever too old to become smarter, lol.
That particular comment struck a chord with me and I have to admit, I learned so much in that 16 weeks and after I passed the test, I was still hungry to learn more. So, long story short, I went back to school and earned my BSN and who knows, maybe a masters will be happening in a few more years. Even though I complained of school and the time away from family, I am proud of what I accomplished. I have that coveted BSN that was not simply handed to me, and I also have a safety net just in case my hospital mandates a BSN by 2020.
Yay! So happy I found this thread! I'm in class 7 right now, Ethics. I'm tired but it's worth it! I'd love to push on to my Masters through GCU eventually!
Hi Vegan, we also post on another thread that is GCU only. Maybe one day we will combine them, lol.
The end is getting closer if you are in ethics. Just like Prism :pntlft:
Community Health Course sounds obnoxious... Is it Public Health Nurse sorts for things? Or, more being out in the community... having to create health related events, education etc??I have to tell you all I am 57. Do you think I am nuts for wanting a BSN? Many ppl are discouraging me.
The class is a bit of a mixture. The focus is on community nursing and the trajectory of nursing to an outpatient setting. In my class, which was a group project, we had to research demographics of a city and find health disparities and develop a project toward that. It's not rocket science, but it's just a heavy paper class.

I think it's awesome...from another almost as old as dirt nurse

We may have something in common Vegan_RN! Although I consider myself more plant based than vegan. I'm in class 5...counting the days down! 25 days left...
Hi SunshineDaisy! I'm moving to Nashville after I finish my RN program in December. Do you have any idea what the job market is like in Nashville?? Also, I am leaning greatly towards Grand Canyon's RN-BSN program but I'm still shopping around. I guess it comes down to cost and what the work is like (tests vs papers).Any advice for me?
Sorry, just now seeing this! Are you a new grad? It's so hard for new grads anywhere here! There's always tons of jobs listed, but everyone wants experience!

The group project was ridiculous!
