I graduate this week and plan on taking my certification exam end of this month or beginning of October. When is it ok as a new grad to start applying for a position?

Thanks!

Depending on your area - I would start NOW!

Never to early to start applying. Hopefully you have been networking for months!

HI Melody48,

I graduated in mid-August (just a few weeks ago), took my AANP FNP board exam and passed, and today my license was posted on my state licensing page (yay!). So, I guess what I am saying is that I have very recently in this same boat.

I actually started interviewing for jobs back in early June (which means I was researching and applying before that). I had a contract for the job I chose in early July - even before I was finished with my last quarter. Long story short: I would get on it as soon you feel that you want. You can get a job offer without your degree or license but wouldn't be able to see patients until those had gone through.

Good Luck on your exam and on the job search!

I would advise you to get started as soon as you can. Most of my classmates had jobs lined up when they graduated. I waited to get all my ducks in a row before I started looking and it's one of my biggest regrets. I like where I'm working now, but I lived in a saturated area and ended up having to move away from the town I loved because I couldn't find any local jobs and even getting interviews out of state seemed to take forever.

I know this isn't the case with everyone. Just my personal experience, but it's never too early to start looking and applying.

Most placed didn't want to talk with me until I was licensed.

I was hired pre test, pre licensed, and offered the job pre graduation. Never stop with no.

Same I had several offers and a signed contract 4 months before graduation. If you are the right candidate employers will wait for you.
