Graduated Vocational Nursing from the Philippines, am I eligible to take the LVN test?

Published

So, my wife graduated from her vocational nursing back in 2009 from st.augustine back in our home country.

The big question is, even though she didnt get her BSN and has her ADN can she take the LVN test?

Any input at all would be really really appreciated.

Contact the state Board of Nursing where you live. Rules and regulations differs from state to state

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Moved to nurse registration

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Depends on the state. I can tell you no for IN, TX and NJ since vocational/practical nursing is not recognized in the Philippines as education eligible for licensing.

There is a specific school in the Philippines that claims to educate to US standards but it is not since the program is overseas.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

Since you use the term LVN, I'm going to presume you're either in California or Texas. Start looking here to see what she should do.

CA BVNPT: Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians

TX BON: Welcome to the Texas Board of Nursing Website

Actually, if your wife has her ADN, she may be able to apply for licensure as a RN. You do not have to have a BSN to apply for licensure as a RN...but as she is an international graduate, the question is whether her ADN program will meet the state's guidelines.

CA BRN: California Board of Registered Nursing

TX BON: same link as given for LVN

Best of luck to her.
