Graduated May2010 and have barely studied for NCLEX!

Published

Am I crazy for waiting this long!? In school they told us the earlier you schedule the better. I am so nervous to have waited this long. I had mostly A's in Nursing school, and at the time had a good understanding of the material. I feel like I have forgotten so much since graduating. Now anxiety is getting the better of me. Can anyone recommend a study schedule or suggestions for someone in my situation. Thank You!

I recommend using Hurst. They have books on Amazon and you can also pay for a class. I think that the class is 3 days and somewhere around $350. NCLEX is different than the questions that you encounter on NCLEX. From what I know, if you know your core contents and know how to think critically, then you should be fine. I knew lots of friends that aced school and failed boards. :-( Hurst will review core and test strategies. Kaplan will show you test strategies, and saunders will help with content. I am using all three in conjunction as I study for mine. Good luck!

I would suggest using just one or two max study guides.

but if you have just started to study, then I would suggest to take a study course such as kaplan (I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but kaplan worked well for me).

you can get organized, and go to their study center every day to study, and think of it as a "job". That is what I used to to, monday-sunday, and on sunday I did not study all day but only a few hours to get my mental break. but seriously, i would study at least 8 hrs. no tv, no internet, no facebook,..... etc.

I suggest you make an appointment, not more than one month out, get your material together, and get to work. Good luck.

Everyone is different. With mostly A's I would think you should be alright. I am one of the few crazy people who didn't really study. I had a trip to Europe planned and wanted to make sure I took the NCLEX before I left. I figured, I have been studying for the past 2 years, so why not give it a shot? And you can always re-take it, right?! I passed with 78 questions and got to enjoy my vacation worry-free!

Good luck! I am sure you will be fine!

Thanks for the advice/ words of encouragement. Ever since graduating I was taking care of projects I put off while in school. I have several review books, and I have my old NCLEX 3500 software. I figure I am going to start out with the review books. I wanted to ask one more question; how long did it take for you to receive your ATT? I paid and sent everything in July 17th, and still no ATT.

I received my ATT 21 days after graduation. I recommend Kaplan if you can afford it.

i got my ATT after I applied by mail on july 14th and I got it on september 10th and I got my ATT by e-mail as I had chosen on my application.

I liked LaCharity (did the whole book) and Kaplan (did the question trainers and a couple of videos).

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much if I were you (easier said than done I know!). To put your "wait" in perspective, I took the NCLEX ten years after graduation and even with the little bit of prep I did managed to pass the first time in 75 questions.

LACHARITY! would help so much :)

if you want to memorize some stuffs, try writing/re-writing it. it would retain more if you write it.

and dont ever forget to pray :)

im doing Kaplan right now, but havent taken nclex yet, if it helps ill let you know!

There is this program online, Kaplan, that will help you not only review, but help you break down the questions. At the beginning, they even have a schedule broken down for you. So it turns out you do a section or a few chapters each day. Btw, if you dont pass you get your money back! Half my nursing class used this program and those half have passed!
