Grad gift - survival kit

Published

I have a friend graduating from an RN program and will be coming to work at the same hospital that I work at in the ER.

I have decided to make her a "survival kit" to get her started. I bought a tote bag and got her initials monogrammed on it, mini sharpies, black pens, ER quick facts pocket book, hemostat, scissors, tape, lock for her locker, pen light that attaches to her ID badge, and a bottle of wine.

Is there anything I am missing or that would be fun additions?

I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say that's really a sweet gesture. Congratulations and best of luck to your friend.

What a great idea!

Even though we swim in a sea of meds, we can't get to them. In my bag, I carry the following:

Advil, Prilosec, Tums, Imodium, Benedryl, and during the winter, those "shake and heat" hand warmers -- they get stuffed into my socks to keep my feet warm (we had 2 nights of extreme cold where the heating system just wasn't cutting it). I also put "travel sized" toothbrush, toothpaste, and most importantly: DENTAL FLOSS.

I also keep some little treats in there -- M&Ms, skittles, as well as a couple of breakfast bars.

Ditto, nerdtonurse.

Stethoscope ID tag, in case she puts hers down "somewhere" or it is borrowed. Chapstick. I always carry the Listerine breath strips in my pocket - the package is pocket-sized, and they don't melt in your pocket.

What a thoughtful gift!

I can't think of what it's called ...but I love my pocket pack thingy for my scrubs that holds my scissors, kelly clamps, change, pen light, etc. I always slide in a few sticks of gum and my lipstick too.

Tylenol, hand lotion, and a pack of gum. BTW this is really a nice thing to do you your friend!

Thanks! I totally forgot about tylenol, lotion and gum! I work nights and she is going to work nights also. She is getting married this summer. I was going to throw in a couple of cans of soup for her new hubby on those nights she won't be able to cook dinner for him. It's definitely fend for yourself in my home when I am working. :) I was going to throw in a box of granola bars so she has something to eat when she is running around like a crazy person.

I just wanted to say I love those new Colgate Wisps. They are mini toothbrushes with just a dot of toothpaste. They are disposable. A friend got me some for when I get mandated. Colleen
