Grad. BSN 4 yrs. ago, 3 mos. NCLEX-RN study enough?

Published

Is anyone on the same boat as me? I graduated BSN 4 years ago and plan to take the NCLEX-RN before it modifies the questions to changing times (April1) i plan to take it end of March 2010. Anyone tried 3 months of preparation and was successful? What did you do? I plan to concentrate on Saunders.

I think it's definitely doable if you must take it before the said date. It would require a massive amount of studying and dedication however.

IMO 100-200Q a day (6 days a week, about 6-7 hrs. studying). Disect EACH Saunders questions, rationales and Kaplan strategies. GL and just always remind yourself every day to "keep your eyes on the prize!"

Hey I graduated in December 2004. I tried it twice and failed both times. Then with my broken heart, I said the hell with it and I never took it again. This year in September, I felt something was missing in my life and I knew what it was. I started getting ready for it again in late September. I took Kaplan in late November. After the in class review I finished all of the question in qbank and the qt exams. I also did my own review as a supliment. I took my NCLEX on December 16th and passed it with 77 questions. You can get in touch with me and I will try to help you as much as I can. You can do it. Good luck.

hi augustboy,

i myself graduated from nursing school dec. 2004. i never stopped taking the test. every year i took the test there after. in 2006 i took the test 3x's, i thought i was onto something (wrong answer). i did say "the hell with it" a few times but i just couldn't stop trying even though i was hurting inside and spending lots of money that i did not have, for pete's sake, i am a single mom with a teenage son that is spoiled and wants everything :banghead:. but i always managed to have just enough money to re-register to take the test, somehow!! motivation and determination to become a nurse kept me taking the test every year, well now, i don't have to take it anymore, feels good finally :thankya:. now my dilemma is finding a nursing job, yaahoo :D

bimmermurse thank you so much for lifting my spirit! yes! i can!

I can second that! I graduated with my ASN in December 2005.........Afterwards, I was dumb enough to fall at home in my own bathroom (3 months post graduation) and I shattered my left heel; needless to say, I had to have surgery twice and and was on Percocets and other pain meds and muscle relaxers for pain/discomfort. I had already paid for my boards, so I decided to "wing it." I tried my best to do some serious studying, but it wasn't easy..............needles to say, I failed my 1st attempt.......BUT, after having 4 surgeries AND 4 years after finishing nursing school, I am getting ready to take boards again!

Hard work and dedication is the KEY! ....WE ALL need to think positive AND keep encouraging each other; I know that my spirits have been lifted tremendously since I started being a daily user of this forum !

Thanks again for the Great Post !

Hi I graduated in may of 08' took the NCLEX and failed with 265 Q, I live in WA so we can only take it 3 times every 105 days. I took it again that Oct. and admit I probably could have studied more, and failed at 75 Q the 2nd time. Both times I did Kaplin did all Kaplin Q and was in passing range. Much higher passing range the 2nd time, I credit this to I had seen the material before. It has now been over a year since my last atempt and nearly 2 years out of school. All I wanted in life was to be a nurse. I have had so much axiety about failing a 3rd time, I have just been living through the pain. I have to work full time to survive, and my biggest struggle is I dont know what would be good materal for success this time, how long to study what to study. I know people say Sauders book, but I am not a good "book reader learner". I would love some help or tips as to what you guys have done to study having failed before and being years out of school. I keep telling myself I can do this, but am struggling with what to do to prepare for success! Also what are you talking about the test changing again in April 2010? SHould I try to take it before that date? Help!! Thank you all and congrats and good lick to all of you!

Augboy! You have given me hope I would love any help you could give. I have done Kaplin twice before (see my other post) Do you think I should do my own study and then take Kaplin again? Thanks so much, really you have no idea how your story has given me hope that my dream can come true!
