GPC Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.

I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.

I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.

It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.

I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.

Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.

Tell me your story!

Sorry to say but that person who you think I was, wasn't me. I know this because I cover my hair (hint hint). I've been Muslim for 8 years now and wear a head scarf. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me!

Same here for the impatiently waiting for the results! Anxiety is killing me! I'm sure it'll be here soon enough; then, finally we can start planning out the rest of our few years! I'm really considering Clayton University even though I get accepted at GPC. Reason being is because you get a BSN in only 4 semesters! It's also the least amount of tuition compared to other universities.

Oh ok! Sorry for the confusion :)

I feel you totally on Clayton. Definitely an option. It's a great program from what I hear.

But don't you need all core requirements before even applying to their nursing program? That's where I needed clarification. Definitely a great alternative tho.

Last I saw the website, you just had to finish them before you start the nursing program. I would call and ask!

Im trying not to stress. This will be my first time taking the exam. From my understanding, I can take it again after 21 days and they would consider the highest score. I'm I right or wrong?

I spoke with the nursing department and was told there is not timeframe one must wait in between attempts. But that u only get two attempts in 2 years. They will consider highest score but still take into account u took it twice. So basically taking it twice kinda works against u. But if u have good grades that shouldn't be a deal breaker. Don't stress!!!! It's really not bad. I found it a bit easier than the practice exams in the back of the ATI book. I'm just a moron and panicked. Don't be like me lol.

Good luck tomorrow! Get a good nights rest. That's another thing I didn't do. Was so nervous. At least you will get your score before me and I took it last Saturday. Ugh. So annoyed.

Thanks and good luck to you also!!!

Hey bud :)

Yea I plan to call when I decide. I'm still not crazy about the distance of Clayton so I'm waiting a bit on my decision.

Yes, I looked into it. I don't know about you, but I'm only 6 classes short after Spring semester. I figured I'd take 2 classes in the summer and apply for fall semester as a pre-nursing transfer and take the rest of the 4 classes including pathophysiology and then apply for the nursing program of Spring 2015... That is IF I decide to go that route... I just have to calculate the expenses which I haven't done yet.

Teas scores from jan 4 are up. I want to apply to Mercer and GPC. but my scores aren't good enough. got a program gpa 3.4 and a teas of 76 but I scored REALLY low on the English/Language arts but scored a 77.1 on science, 90 on math, and 83 on the reading. What are my chances guys..

Hey!!! I just checked too and screamed bc I have checked maybe 1000 times since Saturday lol

I'm putting all my eggs in the GPC basket. I got a 74 on the teas test. I could've done better as I bombed the math I thought BUT I still think it's good enough so I'm hoping for the best and not retaking it.

You have an excellent chance at GPC's nursing program as well as a good chance for mercer. I know from this site of someone that got into mercer with 74 on teas and 3.4 GPA. So definitely apply. If u go to the mercer forum u will see her stats.

Have u applied to GPC yet?
