GPC Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.

I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.

I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.

It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.

I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.

Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.

Tell me your story!

Congrats to everyone who got accepted. For those of us that did not get in :( does your acceptance state when you have to respond by?

I thought acceptance letters were sent first? You received a denial letter? We have to respond by April 30th. Don't give up hope.

Thanks for responding. Yes I got a denial letter. It says if space comes available they will contact me. I have applied to two other schools as well as gpc so I appreciate your kind words :)

Well I've been on this site for a few years while completing my prereqs and I have seen ppl give up their spots and others get offered it. I have also seen ppl call and ask why they weren't accepted and a mistake has been made and a letter of acceptance sent. So don't you give up hope. If it's not GPC it will be one of the two other schools. Have faith :)

Thanks cannolis! I live in Dallas Ga so it might be pushing it to get mail from clarkston today. I have a 74 teas and a 3.6 gpa.

Your scores are not all that far from mine. I really hope you receive one tomorrow! Fingers crossed.

I got the ' no space available...' also but I'm not losing faith. They don't keep a wait list , but hey, they keep something! Thing is we don't know where we stand on the secret log. Funny BC denial letters mixed with accept letters. Maybe accepted and Space available people went out together. One door closes and another opens, if not

..KNOCK IT DOWN!! Don't give up to all that were denied. Hope it was just because of space.

Sorry for those who did not receive good news. I know at least 10 people that got accepted that are not planning on attending and I'm sure there are tons more. Don't lose the faith!!!

Really puglies2? You know a lot of people that applied. I better start making more friends. I was happy to read your post. I have worked too hard to fall down and start balling. I can't do it. Thanks

Yes. I know lots of people that applied to BSN programs and applied to GPC as their backup. I also have two friends about to graduate the program that both received a denial letter and then were later accepted

I did the same thing. As a matter of fact I should have applies three semesters ago when finishing my associates there. I transferred to Clayton not knowing there program is much harder to get it than perceived via website. How long after letters went out were they finally accepted...approximately?

Warnong Clayton state is not a friendly place and the advisers for nursing ....? MMMmm don't bother BC I helped one classmate who got in at Atlanta area and the other is stuck there still chasing GPA numbers. My neice got onto Mercer after attempting Clayton. Chamberlain is still in the air for me. The distance and traffic is a dud! I was willing to sacrifice going straight to bsn for my family...getting kids to school, gas, unforeseen pick ups blah, blah, blah!!! GPC is closer

Does anyone know if the "passport photo" has to be an actual copy of your passport? I never got my passport updated after I got married so my name doesn't match...can I just have a passport photo taken and send that in? I'm thinking they are just concerned with the style of the photo and not that you actually have a passport, but I wanted to get confirmation!
