Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.
I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.
I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.
It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.
I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.
Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.
Tell me your story!
Okay...going to try to explain better. I originally got them email about classes left to take. I responded to let GPC know my plans to take the classes. I then a week or so later sent an email to verify they got my response. I was really hoping to get us all a response about when we might get letters!!! But she responded with ms cr*** is out of the office the next 2 weeks and we should have a letter of acceptance/denial no later than April 30th. Not what I wanted to hear :-(
Let's get to know each other to pass the waiting time.....
I am 36, mom of 2. I have applied to multiple schools this year after being declined to Chattahoochee tech. I had only applied there. :-( very depressing!!!!
I currently work at Kennestone hospital as a unit secretary. On the renal floor.
I have a 3.6 gpa and a 74 teas. I am retaking the teas next Friday. I took the sat for the first time today.
I am very nervous and excited!!!!
I'm glad u asked this. I have been meaning to but with midterms just ending I got sidetracked lol
I am 35 with two sons, ages 5 and 2 :) I returned back to school after over a 10 year break. I was admitted to a nursing program when I was 24 in Queens NYC but had to withdraw in the second week of clinicals due to a death in my family and then life happened... So here I am 11 years later ready to finish what I started :) I decided on GPC bc my friend went thru the nursing program and highly recommended it to me. Not to mention, It's reasonable and close to home. I only applied to GPC bc it's my first choice. If I am not accepted I will knock out my remaining courses for a BSN and apply to Clayton State University.
I have a 4.0 in the sciences. (A&P 1&2)
3.82 in the remaining prequisites
74 on the Teas V
I sometimes wonder if I can handle the rigors of the program but I know I have what it takes so I'm going for it.
Can't wait to hear something either way and hopefully be classmates with all of you for a life changing experience !
I love seeing life stories.
Well, im 26 and my children are my pets. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. I've been living in GA with my boyfriend for about 4 years now. I love it here! I started going to college aimlessly around 2006, but took a 5 year break after a couple of serious life events to pretty much do some soul searching. I returned last year to finish my science pre-reqs and now I'm here!
I have never felt anymore at the right place in my life as I do now. I'm excited about nursing school as I'm sure is everone else! :-)
I'm 25 with an amazing 2 yr old son. I've been a pharmacy tech for almost 5 years. I have my Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Masters degree (last June). I have a 3.3 GPA and 78 TEAS. One of my (upper division) sciences didn't transfer over; but I'm still very excited about this program!!
Its nice to put stories with names! I'm 32 and I have a 3 year old daughter. I have a BS in Chemistry and I work in Quality Assurance (lab rat):) I had several complications during my pregnancy which resulted in me spending more time with nurses and that is when I decided I wanted to be a nurse! I dropped down to part time after my daughter was born and began taking pre-reqs about a year later. I have a 3.3 overall, a 3.8 science and a 89 TEAS. I'm only applying here and Chattahoochee Tech. I hope we all get into GPC!!!
My name is Aybree and I am 25 yrs old. I went to UGA for 3 years for speech therapy and i dropped out bc i hated it. All i did was party all the time and had no interest in school at that point. I kept enrolling and not attending. My GPA is horrendous (1.34) from there. I left there in 2009. Since then, I got married, had a baby, and became a medical assistant.
This is my 4th semester at gpc. I have a 4.0 GPC gpa. My overall GPA is a 2.0, Prereq gpa is a 3.7 and my science gpa is a 4.0. I made a 92 on my TEAS. Hopefully my performance in the last couple years will outweigh my past mistakes.
I have applied at GPC and Mercer(long shot i know, but hopefully essay will help). I will apply to highlands for next spring if i dont get into gpc or mercer.
GPC doesn't look at your overall GPA anyways, just your pre-req and science so you should be fine! Good for you for going back to school!
