Hello,
I'm currently still an undergrad student in the process of finishing senior year looking to apply for Nursing school after grad. I've had a near 3.7 cumulative GPA and wanted to finish with a 3.8 but due to some rough personal situations, I did extremely badly this past semester and my GPA got extremely knocked down. I've calculated and I think I can reach a 3.6 GPA when I graduate... but now I'm extremely scared of my chances of getting into the program I really wanted to get into, in particular, the Rutgers accelerated Nursing Program.
I know the minimum is a 3.3 but I heard from advisors and everyone else that it was extremely competitive and GPA has to be 3.5 and above to be at least be considered. I'm assuming they generally pick people with much higher GPAs.
I'm not completely done with my prerequisites. I still have two left.
PREREQ GPA (so far): 3.3
I'm aiming to finish with a 3.5 in PREREQ GPA.
(minimum is 3.0 for science course)
My questions:
1. What are my chances of getting into this program? (Anyone that's applied to RU accelerated program before with input on this??) I'm extremely worried I've screwed myself over a lot. So I've also been looking at other schools as well as options.
What are the best methods for finding a school? And any school recommendations for me to look into?
2. I struggled a lot with my Chemistry course this year due to many reasons. I ended up passing it but I know it's not enough. I know what went wrong and I know I can do well when i retake it again.
However, how much of a disadvantage would retaking the course put me at during the admission process for schools in general? Or especially for a school like Rutgers?
Anyone know much about the RU accelerated program? Any advice on what or how to proceed from here to put myself in the best position to get into nursing schools?
I'd really appreciate it any other insight about gaining the edge during application process despite less than flattering GPA.
I'm determined to deal with this and do anything I can now and in future to get into the Nursing programs.
Thank-you so much.

I will be short, much shorter than your entire post. You said you did terribly: how terrible you are talking about? Did you get a C, a D or an F? For now your GPA is still good enough to be eligible for many nursing programs. Unless you got a D or F, I would not bother retaking the course; many programs may not accept the retakes, or may, but would still consider the first grade earned. I'd advise that you research the school on that. Finally, to broaden your horizons and increase your chances, consider applying to ADN, BSN and ABSN programs in your area.
P.S. For some reason I felt like your entire post was filled with so much negativity. You used the word "ruined" as if your GPA is very low, as low as 2.0. And I do not think it is the case. Think positively! Many people "ruin" their own chances because they keep thinking negatively. Have some faith and positivity in your life and you will be fine. Good luck!
Hi,
I got a C in Chemistry, which is why I'm really concerned; I will definitely check on schools' policies about retaking courses. I just hope my first grade doesn't pull me down too much during admissions.
You're right, I don't think "ruined" describes it best. Concerned is the better word.
Thanks for your encouragement. :)
Buyer beware, BSN

Check out (collegescorecard.ed.gov) and look at several schools.
And what's the attraction with the "accelerated" thing. Just means more courses in less time.
I suggest meditation.
