GPA requirement for admissions

Published

Hey guys, anyone who can give info about this is much appreciated!

I am an undergrad in the nursing exploratory program in DC, meaning I'm a lowerclassmen nursing major preparing for the entrance into the nursing school. I have learned that my overall science gpa is a 2.71, and the required gpa is a 2.75. I'm still waiting for my advisor to respond to my email, but was just wanted to ask someone who might know more than me. Are my chances of getting into nursing school down to none? Also, I re took a science in order to get my science gpa to a 2.71. Any info helps!! I'm worried and anxious

Keep in mind, that even though the required GPA is a 2.75, that doesn't mean you will be accepted. Those accepted will probably be in the 3.5 or higher range. I honestly dont see you getting into a nursing program with that GPA.

I know many people who have gotten in with 2.8's. I'm sure anyone with that science gpa would get into the nursing program at my college. The question wasn't whether someone with a science gpa higher than 2.79 could get in. My question is whether ppl get in if they're close to the requirement. In other words, is it solely based on science gpa.

Remember, I'm also talking about science gpa. Not overall. My overall is a 3.5

Also, I meant to say 2.75 and not 2.79, excuse me

From what I've seen, science GPA is more important than cumulative GPA. Yes cumulative is important as well, but in nursing science GPA is looked upon more. If the requirement for nursing is 2.75 and yours is 2.71 unfortunately you don't qualify. And 2.75 is the minimum. So even if you did apply it would be much harder then someone who got a 3.6 GPA in science courses. Sorry if I sounded like a D***. Anything is possible though. Try apply to other nursing programs and check their requirements as well. Don't lose hope. If anything talk to the nursing counselor, advisor at your school and see if you still qualify. (:

I agree with most of these commenters. Science/prerequisite GPA is equally important as your overall GPA. Although there are some nursing programs that require a 2.75 GPA does not mean that your goal should make it to the "cut-off" because a lot of prespective students will probably have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Why is your prerequsite GPA so low? Once you get admitted into the nursing program, it will be a lot more difficult, so if you're only able to pull through with a 2.71 science GPA, then you should really ask yourself is nursing really for you. I'm not trying to discriminate you or anything, but once you start the program, you're going to have to maintain a 3.0 GPA otherwise you will get kicked out of the program. My advice to you is either re-take more science classes to get your GPA up or find a nursing school where the minimum cut off is 2.5 GPA. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the advice and info. The nursing school is now evaluating my entire record.

So they're giving it a second look and getting back to you?

Otherwise I would say you're screwed.

Yeah pretty much. And wow thanks? Most of you guys almost come off as offensive or rude lol. But thanks?

No one is trying to come off as offensive or rude. We're all speaking the truth based on general knowledge. That's great that they are evaluating your application, but the only reason why I can see that happening is because the cohort might not be at max capacity because a full cohort = more $$$. Hopefully you get accepted.

Yeah of course no one is :) and yeah me too!
