I earned a Hospitality degree back in 2014 and ended with a horrible 2.3 GPA. I was a college athlete who didn't take school or selecting a major very seriously the first time around. My sport>school.
I currently work for a nursing staffing agency. (I'm one of those annoying recruiters that calls you everyday ) While working at this agency I finally realized what I truly want to do with my career, and that is become a nurse. I am passionate about my studies and would eventually like to earn my DNP. However, I am worried about my previous bachelor's degree.
I am officially enrolled in my first semester of prerequisites, and could be done in a year's time, but here's the big question...
Am I wasting my time? Will any school even look twice at my applications due to my previous GPA?
Is there a specific path anyone recommends that I take? I am currently located in the South Florida area and would love to get into an accelerated BSN program, but I am willing to do what every it takes.
I am looking to set myself up for success and any advice/opinions are greatly appreciated.

I also had a crappy undergrad GPA. Aim for a 4.0 or as close to that as you can in your prereq's. Consider doing relevant volunteer work or doing some CNA work. I got into Hopkins! So, yes, you can go to nursing school if you work hard starting now. Good luck.
That definitely makes me feel better!! I will definitely take your great advice and look into volunteering and CNA work. Thank you so much.

My school did not look at my gpa from my previous degree. Acceptance was based on your entrance exam scores exclusively. I am getting my associates.

I'm applying to adn programs and absn progs. You should apply to a mix of programs and see where you get in

If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA when you applied at Hopkins and how was the program? And what was the average score to aim for on the teas? I already got accepted into a nursing school, but I've also been looking at some schools on the east coast.
Hi salukigirl! Do you mind me asking which schools you applied to?
Update:: I just got in to an Accelerated BSN program in south Florida. It can be done!! :)
I don't remember exactly, but less than 3.0. Hopkins does not require TEAS.
