gpa for JUST prereqs?

Published

Hey everyone! Im new here..and just decided to pursue a career in nursing after a long break from school. I was previously going for something i was not passionate about and unfortunately have a 2.4 gpa. However..after looking into the nursing program (the ADN at my school) NONE of the prereq classes i need have been taken yet...which equal to about 7 classes...and it looks like they ONLY judge your entrance initially by the gpa you get in these 7 classes...NOT your overall course history gpa. Does this sound familiar? If so..im really excited because I know i can do it and Im very determined..its almost like a brand new start for me!

Or, if you have time during a weekday, you could go by the Nursing Dept., and ask.

I think of it as being on South Campus, altho I had heard it would be moving to Trinity Campus, which would make things more time-consuming. (solid downtown Ft. Worth) If that's so, and if you go there, take parking meter change. I've heard parking is no problem there (garage next to the former Radio Shack HQ, with some levels dedicated to TCC); and I've heard the opposite. As you will know, TCC parking can be a real problem, depending on campus and time of day.

The first University I applied to considers your GPA from the beginning of your academic career. I have a 4.0 in my last 63 credits, but had a bad semester 20+ years ago and it put me out of the running. The University I am applying to this fall is strictly GPA.

I've been a lurker for a couple semesters and, congratulations, your post got me to finally register.

Now the bad part, unless you can explain a little better your post seems a lot more like an excuse than a fact. What I mean is, if you take 63 credits at 4.0, you come out at 252. Now I don't know how many hours you took that "bad semester" but well assume it was 17, for round numbers sake. So now you have 252 grade credits for 80 hours of coursework, you come out with a 3.15 GPA. It's not stellar, but I've seen worse. That number also is artificially low, as I doubt you failed every class you took and if it was truly just one "bad semester" your other hours should make up for it. Unless your "bad semester" was your only semester, you failed every class that semester and are applying to only ABSN (impossible with only 80 hours, generally) something has to give.:smokin:
