gpa goal

what gpa would someone need to earn to get into a nursing program in a PRIVATE school. I would also like to know how many credits should someone have to transfer

depends on the school, I have seen schools in my area not look at gpa's, just pass the pre req's with a C and take the entrance exam. Personally, I would not attend those schools because they are just out for money.

ok fine a school in NY CA or a good school with a good rep

It would depend. Are you talking about private or for-profit? For-profit schools tend to be very lax. Private schools with a good reputation tend to have higher requirements, I've seen 3.0 minimum but then they say their incoming class has an average gpa of 3.8 or something similar.

I'd recommend talking to the specific school you are interested in.

o ok i think the schools im talking about are non profit

The private schools where I live, dont except transfers or pre-reqs. You just have to pass the entrance exam which is hard. I'm pretty sure all private school are like that, like Galen and such.

What is your GPA right now?

3.52 =/ gotta get it up

What kind of volunteer work, certifications, or work history? Honestly you will be able to get into MOST nursing schools with a 3.5. If you are that worried I would highly advise that you maybe get a cna certificate or complete an EMT course. Both look really good on an application. Also, don't just apply to ASN programs, look into the BSN programs in your area. A lot of people would prefer to just go back for their BSN after they get their ASN so the competition may not be as steep.

ill do some volunteer work and which certification can be done in shorter time and cheaper cna or emt

Not sure about your area. Where I live some nursing home will train you for your cna for free if you work part time for them. The EMT course would really set you apart from other applicants tho.

i live in the NY area Nassau County to be specific and yeah ill do that
