2.7 GPA / 95% entrance exam

Anyone get into a nursing school first attempt with a 2.7 gpa but scored dramatically *high* on the entrance exam in CA?

Most schools require a 3.0 gpa regardless of entrance exam score...however, some may not. It's best to check with the school you're trying to attend. Good luck.

California, from what I see, is extremely impacted. I would check with the colleges you're applying to about their minimum requirements.

You need to AT LEAST meet the minimum requirements at a given school to even have your application considered (as in, not shredded). From there, look at schools that run on a lottery system. Most community colleges in CA operate this way, and as long as you meet the minimum requirements, you're good to go, but it's random luck at that point.

Thanks everyone. The reason for this post is I've heard others with a low gpa score get accepted in a program due to their high entrance exam score. Most colleges require 2.5 GPA for prereqs and a 3.0 gpa for the general classes. I will be applying to lottery system schools but also have years of cna experience, which can help boost me on a point system. I have not taken my science courses yet and I know the point system adds up the numbers of A's and B's on your science classes.

For some reason Allnurses is not allowing me to reply to your pm. I will answer it on here. The schools here in TN may not have as many applicants as California, but they still require a certain GPA. My school requires a 3.0 and a pretty high score on the entrance exam, which is why I made my original statement ^. Being an LPN first will not allow you to be below the school's standards. And the regular standard entry program is even more competitive. Also, a 3.0 is the minimum GPA. Most of the applicants I spoke to have a 3.5 or higher. You may need to retake some classes or try and get an academic fresh start and retake. However, I am no expert. I cannot speak for all the schools in TN, just the one I attend. It would be best to speak to someone from the school your interested in.

Thanks. I have a (D+) in College algebra back from 2007 that I have not retaken yet. I am working on my science classes now and plan to retake college level algebra next semester.

Is the algebra class transferable? Mine weren't, so they weren't even factored into my GPA. Make sure you're not wasting time on something you don't need.

Also, make sure you look up the program's repeat policy. Some programs are fine with it, others not so much.

I know most schools ask for intermediate algebra.i took the math class at a community college back in 2007. I did call a few colleges and some accept CLEP algebra but i would like to raise my GPA any way i can.
