Phew!!
Thank you so much for this forum and your encouragement and support since August when I first began to apply.
Wow, I just got the "official" word. I am going Green. :)

im going to contribute to this thread going off topic. i noticed your age gennaver and thought you might be interested in this procedure. it is not for everyone and they usually want you to be at least 35 and no longer wanting to have children. if this applies to you then check out a procedure called novasure. it is sort of a between step-not ready for a hysterectomy but don't want the period either. it causes most people to stop having a period all together....and yet you get to keep all your stuff and still have the hormones you need. of course if you want to carry a child, then you can not have this procedure.
i did try something similar to what you posted (soft-cup) called the keeper (would not be the best option for the field though-you need to be able to clean it). i did not have a lot of success. i had a heavy flow and it would have leaking which sort of defeated the purpose but it was comfortable.

I heard about something similar. If this isn't too personal, have you used it yet? What do you think of it? Is it something you would use even when finished with training? Thanks
Hi,
I don't mind discussing it at all. I held out from using them for a long time because I thought they would expose your cervix to bacteria yet, that does not seem to be the case as the mesus is NOT exposed to air while it sits in the cup.
There are plenty of instructions on how to insert and in reality it should be easier to insert than an applicator free tampon, (just requires aquiring familiarity so I suggest to test run it on a non heavy flow day-as per the website and instructions).
I wish these would have been available 20 years ago! I am still too timid to use them but, once I get familiar I think I will not purchase pads again unless they are for back-up or overnight.
The only thing I read is that if a person is very small boned or petite than the cup's ring may be too big and it may not fit but will tip forward and leak. I also read that if someone has a tipped uterus that the ring of the cup will not sit properly at the cervix as well.
The backcountry camping women who have been suggesting these for years to me really rave about them and say that once you get accustomed to them you will wonder why you ever used any other product!

The instead cups are disposable one time use only. I wonder how much the "keeper' could hold? The softcup website recommends that it will last about twice as long, (or two hours longer) than whichever feminine product you are using.
So if you change your pad or tampon ever 2-4 hours on your heavy days the soft cup will only last you a little while longer, (say 3-6 hours) than current product?
At 40 and single and not able to afford it, it is highly doubtful that I will ever be having kids.
I see that the novasure is treatment for endometriosis, (which defintely causes major heavy flow, pain and blood loss!).
I never experienced problems, just the occasional heavy day and only the most minimal of discomfort.
It seems that for a non-endometrial sufferer that there would not be a predisposing diagnosis to justify.
Thanks for posting it though, someone else may be interested, especially an endometrial sufferer!

it can hold 1 oz.
even your occasional heavy day - i would say a lot of docs would perform the procedure. my opinion though. its an easy and fast procedure that they get a lot of money for and brings money to the hospital or surgury center. just like a lot of things in the medical field, if the pt words things a certain way and that is all the doc needs to hear (they can chart it and it be 100% true) then they can "justify" it. i would say if a women said ... i have an occasional heavy flow with cramping (even light cramping) and who can not say that, they would do this procedure if she wanted it. From my experience....my ob/gyn pushes this procedure on any women who is over the age of 35 just like they do other things/procedures in other doctor offices. this is all my own opinion on what doctors do for their business and is in no way am I trying to say that doctors are unethical....just business people.

Wow,
Gosh, I have non-significant flow or cramping really, it would be a cosmetic or convenience surgery for me and I am not interested, at all.
I believe that if it has clinical significance for women who suffer from endometriosis then it is worthy yet, otherwise I would want to educate women on the unecessariness of it otherwise.
I tend to view things for my own body as relative. Really, I am woman, a mensus is a natural/normal thing and I was raised with the mindset that it is "normal" and nothing more.
To change it for convenience is out of my worldview. The idea of ablating my uterine lining just so my monthly ovum cannot get a grip is absurd to me.

Gennaver, sorry it's taken me so long to get back with you. The field exercises are done Mon-Fri- you'll be back on main post for the weekends. So it's pretty cool, and you are not roughing it like "man vs. nature". On the scale of field problems you'll get the de luxe version.

Ok, I just graduated from RN school, I should be taking my NCLEX sometime this month. I am interested in joining the nurse corp. The recruiter I have been talking to has explained the following to me ... just want to make sure that everyone else has heard or knows if this is right/wrong.
I will have my ADN, I was told that I will sign up for the reserves and for 2 years I will attend school getting my BSN. During that time I will not drill or anything, just go to school. I will get a monthly stipend of over 1200.00 while in school. Plus I will get 50,000 in tuition reimbursement. Once I graduate with my BSN I will have a contract of 6-8 years and be in the reserves. At the time of my graduation I will attend OBC and then will start my drills and things.
Does this sound right/wrong ... any advice? Anything I should clarify? What should I look for in my contract?

Hello,
It sounds like you are applying for the Army Nurse Candidate Program. Nice stipend! I didn't qualify for the ANC program but, will graduate in June. Wow, a 50K tuition reimbursement? I thought that one was either a student nurse candidate, (which was with the stipend and a 10 bonus) OR a health professions loan repayment, (which is a 10K bonus with a max 30K loan repayment).
Sounds like you recruiter said you would get two things which I know to be an either OR situation.
Also in order to qualify as a ANC, (Army Nurse Candidate you must be working towards your BSN and already be in the program). Not sure if it is for a RN to BSN bridge though.
Good luck and keep researching.
the reserves can offer you something different than the ancp or active duty. they just have different programs to offer...for one reason because they can have an associate degree rn and active duty can not. my advice....as long as it is in writting you are good. do not just take a recruiters word. if they say they can offer it, it will be in the contract.
