A couple of questions for Army folks ...

How often does the Army Nursing Board meet? I'm just trying to get a feel for a timeline, i.e., if I get my ginormous load of paperwork completed by a certain date, it might go before the board on this other date. Thanks for any insight! I'm going to be calling my recruiter with some various questions this coming week, but thought I'd throw this one out there.

Can anyone give my an idea of the timeline you experienced? My AMEDD recruiter said she just had one person pass through the Board, and not be scheduled for BOLC until August. I'm figuring I'll probably see that much of a gap myself, depending on how often the Board meets.

In other news, my parents are over-the-top thrilled that I'm looking at the Army Nurse Corps! Apparently my stepfather, being a retired Army officer, can do my swearing in, and he really wants to do that. Neato! I might get all teary-eyed and stuff. :D (I know, there's no crying in the Army. LOL)

I am not sure how often the Board meets as I am out of that particular loop. But I can tell you how my timeline went:

FEB - started process, called Army HealthCare Recruiter, Reserves

MAR -Apr - got all paperwork together

JUN - went to MEPS, needed waivers

JUL-AUG - all waivers completed

NOV 22 got the call I was accepted by the Board...had some picky stuff (paperwork) had to straighten out

DEC - got orders for TPU, OBLC

SO took me almost one full year. The transition to AD was quicker only because I knew the ropes regarding appliction packet etc

I think it would be super cool to have your stepdad do your swearing in. I wish I had someone at mine:crying2: I had to take a bus (didn't own a car at that time) for a six hour one way trip there for a five minute "raising my right hand". Took me over 9 hours to return home, but I would do it again in a :redbeathe EXCEPT I know better now! NOW I would go to the nearest Army Base that was closer to my home of record [then go to one out-of-state because my Recruiter didn't want to make the trip in to pick me up and take me back....Why he didn't suggest this, IDK]

OH MAKE SURE YOUR RECRUITER actually submits your paperwork for any type of bonus that you are eligible for. Mine neglected to submit the required paperwork for my bonus of $15,000.

Ha ha you made laugh about the "no crying in the Army".....Girl, when I swore in I was blubbering like a fool!

When I enlisted at age 18, I was all alone. I have no idea why my mom didn't come. But I remember everything about that few moments when I rose my hand. This time when I swear in, my kids will be there for me. I get teary just thinking about it.

Athena, thanks for your input/timeline -- I apparently don't have to do the full-on MEPS, but a physical at Walter Reed -- they said it would take about 4 hours total (blood draw, whiz quiz, etc.). I'm figuring it'll be a year before I go anywhere, too -- I won't have my BSN until June, and I actually need to stay with my employer until August so that I don't have to repay any educational dollars, so I think it'll all work out.

My time line....

March 09, met with and talked to the recruiter

May 09, went for tour and physical at BAMC, passed physical, all paperwork completed

June 09, packet went to boards, found out about 2 wks later I was selected

June 22, 2009, swearing in into IRR, signed contract, loan pay,bonus paperwork

August 09, received a phone call from the LTC with my 1st assignment, discussed a few things, selected my 2nd choice, requested to go to OBLC in March 2010 and was told "ok"

That's it for me in a nut shell, so I should be going to OBLC in March but I was told I probably won't receive actual orders until

Thanks!! So I think my guesstimate of a year was probably pretty accurate, as long as I can wring these letters of recommendation out of my nurse manager and supervisors. :D (They're not thrilled about the idea of me leaving, but are very supportive!)

Your Retired army officer step father experienced an Army that is totally different from what your experience will be.

As a former enlisted 11B, now 66P, the AMEDD leaves me with a huge headache when I compare the two.

There is the Army.... then there is the AMEDD. Totally different animals.

As a former enlisted 11B, now 66P, the AMEDD leaves me with a huge headache when I compare the two. There is the Army.... then there is the AMEDD. Totally different animals.
