With this horrible economy and me being a new graduate i was super excited last week when after applying for dozens of jobs, I finally got an email from a nurse recruiter that said he would like to speak with me and conduct a 30 minute telephone pre-employment screen.
I set up the appointment for the call at 2:30 this past Wednesday the 12th , I was sent 2 reminders that he would be calling. 2:30 came and went, NO ONE called not even days later! No email either!
I left him a message on his voicemail that day at 3:30 asking about rescheduling.
I called back once more Friday and when i got his voicemail it said he would be out from the 13th(day after scheduled interview) until the 19th. I realize he may have had something come up and perhaps thats why he didnt call and why he is gone.
I REALLY REALLY am interested in this job, and I don't know if i should call HR of the hospital and explain my situation or try calling the recruiter again on the 19th....
Any advice???

I wouldn't wait. I'd call HR and explain the situation, making clear that you understand that situations arise and appointments can't always be kept. Let HR know that you are still extremely interested in the position and ask whether there is someone else who will be doing interviews or if you should connect with the recruiter on his return. At least you'll get some resolution and not be sitting and wondering. Plus it puts your name back on their radar and shows initiative.
I was debating calling tomorrow, now i definitely will...i don't want to let a chance at this position slip away...thank you!!

Same thing happened to me, and I called HR and they never called me back. Completely cut the connection. I ended up deciding if that an organization that cannot have the professionalism to keep a phone interview is not one for which I want to work. That was not an easy decision, given at the time it was my only lead. I say this all in case they never get back to you, realize, that you are better than that. Best of luck in your search, and I do hope they call you.
It is very rude...they expect you to jump through flaming hoops to get hired but could'nt care less to leave you waiting by the phone....

If you are working with a recruiter, don't feel guilty with calling them until you get an answer. I'm still waiting for my application to be accepted for RN/BSN this fall or next spring. But in my current field (IT), we deal with recruiters all of the time. They get paid for getting you hired. If you are interested in a position, keep pushing them until you get at least a phone interview.
Good Luck!

Well i called HR and got a woman who didnt really have much to say, she just offered to send me to his voicemail and to leave him a message, which i already had the day he didn't call.
So, he will be back Thursday, If he doesnt call by 3:00 that day I'm gonna call him.
I will update again when I speak with him !

I agree that it's very un-professional to not contact you, but sometimes, heck often, HR is the least professional part of an organization.
The manager you work for will have much more of an impact on your job satisfaction than HR. It wouldn't hurt to contact the department manager directly to see if the job's been filled, etc. Even if you get nowhere by that route, you won't be any worse off than writing the job off.
Well the recruiter got back on the 20th and never called (though i left a voice mail), I called him yesterday and explained the situation and asked about the job.
He didnt even acknowledge the fact that he didnt call, but did set up to call me on Monday for an interview as the position wasnt filled yet. So we'll see.... *fingers crossed* Im so nervous, i want this job so bad...
Do you have any updates for us yet???
Well!
He did indeed call today at 1, and i feel the interview went decently. :) He says I will know in 2-4 days whether the manager is interested in interviewing me, god i'm so hopeful!!
heres some of the things he asked:
-ask about my previous job, what i did there
-favorite clinical
-what I would change about a clinical
-did i ever pass a med w/o knowing what it was
-a time of conflict or telling someone bad news
-where is your career path heading
-A time you adhered to a policy/order you may not have agreed with
...i know there was more but thats the ones I can remember! I'll post if I get the 2nd interview :)!!
