I just wanted to say thank you for everyone for giving me the information I needed to help me at my interviews. I got a call this morning to say that I have been selected for a position and I received my conditional offer. (conditional that I pass my physical and drug test.)
I am still not 100% positive that I will accept the offer, because it will mean a pay decrease, as well as working evenings and weekends which I don't do now, but I do really want to work in corrections, so I think it will be worth it. I am so excited!
:lol2:Thank you thank you thank you:yeah:
Most likely I'll be around gathering info and sharing mine with you for awhile:)
Hi Chaotic,
I was trying to reply to your message but I don't have the required 15 posts needed to PM. Anyway, orientation is going really well! My class has about 13 per-diem nurses from all areas of nursing even OB-GYN. The classes are in Cheshire and discuss mostly behavioral management, sexual harrassment, con games and etc. As per-diem we do not have to participate in the physical fitness portion which works out for me because I am 8 months pregnant. We have CPR even if you are already certified because it works a lil differently in jail/prison. The trainers work for CMHC and the DOC and alternate days depending on the presentation. Our 1st unit orientation will occur this week and friday is our last day of orientation then we can sign up for shifts. I hope your second interview goes well!!!
I had to lift the 50lbs also, can you imagine I was praying please don't let me go into labor:eek:. The training for FT works out to be aroung 6 or 7 weeks and there are days when you exercise with the DOC. I heard they spray chemical (pepper spray) into the air for staff to experience, I guess that's why we have the breathing test.
rocki718- Congrats!!! :balloons::monkeydance:
Oh really, they actually spray the stuff? That is good though, so you know what to expect. I actually talked to my PCP because I was worried after the issue with the breathing test (I was recently dx with asthma). They did one on me at the office and she said it was good. So we thought that maybe their standards are higher because of the pepper spray that they use.
Kinda can't believe that they still made you do that lifting though!
Thank you so much for the info. Your orientation sounds good. I was told that it could be months before I can get into the training at the DOC (one nurse was there almost a year before she got into it!). Apparently I will just be oriented to all 3 shifts at the facility first and start working before I even get to that training. How that is ok, I don't know. I would really like to be oriented to the safety and security procedures first, but oh well I guess it is what it is.
Thank you! And I hope you have a great last week on orientation. Let me know how your first shift goes!
to respond to - chaoticdreams33,
:balloons: Good for you! I'm suprised to hear about the physical fitness test and the drug test. I offered results from both of those when I was hired but to my suprise, both were declined. I was told that if anybody suffered from any drug type issues, it would surface soon enough. How about that?
Anyway, it sounds like you will be enjoying this new position. Good rapport with co-workers is essential no matter where you work and you already seem to have that going for you!!!
Keep on posting about your experiences! Looking forward to seeing how things are going.
