Walden MSN-Leadership/Management
I am sorry to hear that. I had a really attentive advisor and I will try to PM you the name. The tuition includes everything: courses and books. The books are sent to your home 1-2 weeks before your classes actually start.

Walden MSN-Leadership/Management
I started the MSN Leadership program on 10/31 and I am so far very pleased with it. The first term starts with 2 courses followed by 1 class per term. The program runs a consecutive 17 months. The program is strict and time consuming as you are required to post to the discussion board at least 3 times per week this includes citing references in APA format and also submitting papers every week. My classmates have amazing backgrounds in nursing and are a wealth of information. The classes are about 8 weeks in length. I read some posts on this site from graduates of the program and Walden has received great reviews.

Lawyer who is a nurse
do you mean malpractice law?

Affairs between staff members spouses
stay out of it. If nurse 1 wants to stay there and face her problem daily with nurse 2 then that's on her. You don't need anyone putting there personal problems on you especially in the workplace.

OK, ummm............well...........
uhhhh,ok....I have heard and seen some interesting things (work in corrections per-diem), but that is just too damn funny!

Time to call a duck a duck?
I can see your point. I graduated from a BSN program and our class was called Leadership in Nursing. Floor nursing or any nursing that requires hands-on is definitely a labor. I do believe ADN programs prepare their nursing students to be clinically/technically competent whereas BSN programs groom their students for future management/ledership positions. In the past, I worked on a 32 bed med-surg floor caring for 8-11 patients at night with one nursing assistant for three RN's. It was definitely labor boot camp but I never expected it to be glamorous. We had patients that needed to be in the ICU but were kept on the floor because of the census. Talk about feeling like you just ran a marathon but what would really bother me is when management would come in during AM change of shift report and ask the nurses "how many baths did you do?" Now I can say that was in the past because I have been so fortunate, because of the BSN, to have "Professional" job offers where autonomy does exist take case management or homecare for example.

Got a conditional job offer! Thank you!!!
I had to lift the 50lbs also, can you imagine I was praying please don't let me go into labor:eek:. The training for FT works out to be aroung 6 or 7 weeks and there are days when you exercise with the DOC. I heard they spray chemical (pepper spray) into the air for staff to experience, I guess that's why we have the breathing test.

Hi Chaotic, I was trying to reply to your message but I don't have the required 15 posts needed to PM. Anyway, orientation is going really well! My class has about 13 per-diem nurses from all areas of nursing even OB-GYN. The classes are in Cheshire and discuss mostly behavioral management, sexual harrassment, con games and etc. As per-diem we do not have to participate in the physical fitness portion which works out for me because I am 8 months pregnant. We have CPR even if you are already certified because it works a lil differently in jail/prison. The trainers work for CMHC and the DOC and alternate days depending on the presentation. Our 1st unit orientation will occur this week and friday is our last day of orientation then we can sign up for shifts. I hope your second interview goes well!!!

Associates in Nursing vs Bachelors?
As far as pay goes, not much of a difference if any. A lot of hospitals prefer nurses with a BSN. I have my BSN and was offered 65 cents extra per hour. In your case it may be worth it to just get the BSN especially since there are programs offering a BSN in 15 months for students with degrees in other fields. With your management experience and a BSN you will probably be offered higher positions in Nurse Management after sometime on the floor.
