U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello, I just applied to the Gordon State College ASN program last month, but I do not many others who have applied. I'm super nervous with this being my second time applying. I would like to stay up to date with others who are applying, so if anyone is out there looking for someone to talk to through this process, please respond! I'd like to know yall's stats. I know a lot of people like to ask what my stats were when i wasnt accepted last year, so they are as follows...

gpa: 3.0

critical thinking: 68

teas (no longer need): 67.8

I'll post my current ones once someone replies, plus I'd like to know yall's. thx!!

Hi Moon Pie,

I know its been awhile, but did a spot open up for you (Spr2015)?

If you didn't, are you going to reapply for Fall 2015? I'm in the progress of sending in my application for fall.

Hey MackKay,

i actually applied last minute for Middle Georgia State's ASN program and was accepted for their Spring 2015 program on the Cochran campus, so I will start with them next month:). But if it were that I didnt, then I would have applied again for Gordon. Gordon is hard to get into because of the amount of seats available not being many. This was my second time applying for Gordon, and as you saw I was still wait listed. I was accepted for MGSC with a very low TEAS score but a lot of credit hours plus my CNA. If there's anything that I can tell you that could help, it would be apply to multiple schools! And if this is seriously what you want to do, do not give up:) it took a while for me, but it was so worth it getting accepted!

Also, no I haven't been pulled from the wait list. Sorry, I didn't answer that clearly lol good luck with school!! And if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for replying and CONGRATS on getting into Middle Ga! I was thinking about Middle Ga but they require the TEAS and I haven't registered or studied for it. I'm really hoping to get into Gordon, but Im concerned about that CTT. I'm applying to Coastal College of GA and UNG as back up. How was the CTT? Any tips? I'm sending my Gordon app in after christmas and hope to get find out when I will be able to sit in for the test.

MackKay,

I just graduated from Gordon's nursing program last Friday. The CTT is nothing you can really prepare for. It is an odd test that consists of riddles and whatnot. The best advice I can give is to read each question slowly and do not think too much into it! It really is straight forward if you can get past the weirdly worded answer options. Hope that helps! Good luck!

They're not riddles - most of the exam is made up of categorical syllogisms and sequence type questions like you might find on an IQ test. They will give you a syllogism and then ask you to extrapolate the best answer given the terms in the question, or a series of numbers for you to choose the missing number. While it's not something you cannot really "study" for, you can practice to help you prepare. There are loads of practice questions for these types of questions online. The test has very little to do with pre-req knowledge. It tests your critical reasoning abilities.

thanks for responding Brittleigh, I appreciate it.

Congratulations on graduating from the program. I know you're probably celebrating and prepping for the next steps, but are you considering continuing with GC's RN-BSN? How was the ASN program for you?

Yes, I plan on starting the BSN program in May! That will last for three semesters. I decided to go ahead and do it because it will be very hard to go back if I don't!

The ASN program was hard to me. The tests are very difficult and the "busy work" you have to do is crazy! Your first semester however, will not be like that. It will be fun and not too hard. The later semesters are the killers, especially OB! That was my worst and the one that most people failed. I wanted to quit MULTIPLE times during the program and I even had my mind set on doing it. But, I stuck it out and thank God I finally graduated!

Wow, what-a experience you had! It's great that you did not give up!!! Thanks for sharing those details. Was there any math on the CTT? Again, thanks for sharing and congratulations!

No, no math!! I actually had to take the test again before I graduated and made ten points less than the first time I took it!! Which is crazy, I know. I made a 85 the first time. I did not think it was hard the first time I took it but for some reason, this time was harder... and it was the same. Haha!

Congratulations Moon Pie. What was your stats for MGSC, if you don't mind sharing?

Hey, I'm embarrassed to say, but my teas was bad, 65. I made a 70 at Gordon, but of course we had to retake them since it was an application to a different program. Gpa 2.75, core gpa 3.0, and when you're accepted into the program, you take a critical thinking test and mine was a 72.5, but that doesn't mean much since it's not a factor. I did not have strong scores, but I do have a lot of credit hours(one core class away from having my bsn core done) and I have my CNA certification. Hope this helps! Also, I believe they accepted 70 for the ASN program. However, there were only about 20-25 asn people at orientation so idk!!! Accepting only 20-25 people sounds ridiculous, maybe they had multiple orientations, but that sounds ridiculous, too. So idk. I think what helped me was having my CNA and a lot of credit hours coming from science classes, which I made a's and b's in.

Good Luck!
