Good private schools to attend in California for nursing.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I decided to take the route of attending a private school instead of trying out for a state college or university. I know that this route will be more expensive, but sometimes I feel as if the odds of getting into a state/university is almost near impossible.

My question is: is it really that competitive to get into a state/university or is getting into a private school actually easier? How hard is it to get into a private school? Lastly, do any of you know some good private schools in Southern California to attend?

Well the way I thought of it was that you just can't fail two; you're right only 1 fail! WCU is expensive but what college isn't? I love my school and I know it has faults but I'm getting a good education and feel great about my future! Just do research and find the right school for you!

is it one fail from a. test? or from a class?

I would try applying to private and state schools. You know your situation best, but I would make sure to research the market for new grads, and income. You can find a lot of threads on here about students who went to an expensive school, came out and got a job and still cannot afford their loans, much less a car or house, if those are a goal. There are other threads about students coming out of school and unable to find a job and needing to work two non-healthcare jobs to manage to pay their loans Consider finding the price and messing around with an online loan calculator to see where your payments would be, and if you are comfortable with that. Waiting a while may be a better choice than taking out 80k+ in loans. Good luck, I am sure you will make the best decision for you.

Your initial question is so vague it is not possible to answer. What do you mean by "really that competitive"?? or "how hard is it to get into private school"? What is "hard" to you? Are you meaning like percentages? You can get admission statistics from any school you apply to. If that is what you mean? Are you talking about the admission process? Like filling out paperwork and prereqs? When I went to nursing school in 2005 I read what was required and applied. Using words like "impossible" I would say is viewing something differently than others who are successful. Is it a challenge? Hell yes it is as it SHOULD be. You want it you have to go get it.

I would suggest still applying to the CSUs. Worst that happens is you don't get in, but if you don't apply, you definitely won't get in. How are your GPA, prereqs and TEAS score?

I hate to be a downer, but if you don't have an EXCELLENT GPA CSUs are very likely out for you. In the cohort that just started at school the lowest starting GPA was a 3.89. And they recently told all of the prenursing students if they have a total (not just nursing classes but now total) GPA of 3.75 to find a new major.

I don't know if West Coast is extremely hard but I do know it has a great reputation as producing good nurses.

Hi, Can a student get 100% financial aid with West Coast? For fall 2015 My kid is applying to CSUs and CCs currently and so far 2 CSU admission denies due to impacted and other reasons.

Thanks for good info. Taking huge loan first is always worrying me since it forces you to make $$ and pay the loan first. We will stick with CSUs and CCs.

Second option will be to get a BS and get into PA school.
