Good Nursing Fiction

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am a new nursing student. I love reading and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on great nursing fiction novels. I was looking for something that I could read when I am taking a study break from my regular studying materials. I still want to read within the same area instead of my normal choices of fiction so that my mind doesn't stray too far from the task at hand. :)

Thanks!

Chicken soup for the nurses soul was pretty good if you are looking for something PC.

I really liked Echo Heron's books if you want to read crazy real stories.

try looking in you libraries computer and use those two words for search words. they are out there. There even used to be a nurse nancy comic book.

I read Intern Blues, true about 5 people going to be doctors, and the rigors they face. good use of the termimology...

And Nurse in Distress or sumthing along that line, where a nurse discovers a doc. with a great cure for cancer.... but nobody will take him up on it.

use the search words....

Nurse-Peggy Anderson...

(Little bit dated now but a very good read.)

When I was in nursing school, I had to take a nursing history class; my project focused on WWII era nursing. One of the books I used for my research was an excellent pleasure read. The title of the book is We Band of Angels by Elizabeth M. Norman. The author interviewed Army and Navy nurses who served in the Philippines on the islands of Bataan and Corregidor; they were subsequently taken as prisoners by the Japanese. If you like historical reading, this is an excellent book! She also wrote a book that chronicles 50 Army nurses who served in Vietnam; I haven't read this one yet, but I want to.

Bed number 10 by Sue Baier. a wonderful book written from the pt's perspective on how the good and bad of nursing affects a pt. we had to read it when i went through my high school cna class. highly recommend it!!!!!!!!!!

I listened to "Never Change" by Elizabeth Berg on tape. I like the tapes for then I drive to school. Don't have as much time to read fun stuff in NS. It's about a visiting nurse and her relationships w her patients. Author is a former RN.

"Coma". An oldie but a goodie. I am reading "One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest right now". I buy my books at Goodwill or Salvation Army.

A Bed By the Window by M. Scott Peck MD. I enjoyed it years ago. I never was a great fan of Peck, but enjoyed this.
